Punch...quotes: "The cathedral church of the Catholic archdioces of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, is now known as St. Mary's Basilica, and is the continuattion of the oldest English-speaking parish of Catholics in Nova Scotia, that of St. Peter's church. The original church was opened in 1784 and was known as St. Peter's until 1830, and thus all the present entries pertain to St. Peter's. The earliest entry in these extracts is October 1801, though the existing registers begin in 1800. ........While 192 marriages spread over 16 years is a small number, they do indicate those areas in Ireland from which the heaviest migration to eastern British North America was then taking place...........just over 70% of the movement through Halifax from Ireland was from the five southern counties (Cork, Waterford, Wexford, Kilkenny and Tipperary.
