    1. [NFLD-LAB] 1917 Halifax Disaster and Family LINKS..
    2. Lloyd Rowsell
    3. A few days ago I posted a note about the gemerous response of the people of Mass., to an appeal by Rev. Robert T.S. Lowell, for relief to a disaster (shortage of food crisis) at Conception Bay NL in the year 1848. Last night I saw a TV report about the 1917 Disaster at Halifax, N.S. I was reminded of the charitable efforts of the people of Mass., some 69 years earlier, towards the people of CB NL when I heard words, which went something like this, by a comentator on the December 1917 events at Halifax. The relief response was quick and effecient from Boston, Mass. A train load of Doctors, Nurses & relief workers, food, medical supplies, etc. was quickly assembled by relatives of the people of Halifax. The response was more like a family to family response to a time of need than a Government to Government response to a disaster. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
