Marilyn, Thanks for your comments. However Marilyn (and anyone else interested), you don't need to upgrade your FTM software to have 2 (or even more) FTM files open at the same time. All you have to do is to use the WINDOWS Explorer file manager. First, make sure that the files that you want to open are in the same folder. Then you just highlight each file ( put curser over file name, press CNTL key and LEFT CLICK the mouse over each file) . Once the files are highlighted, RIGHT CLICK and choose OPEN. Voila - multiple files open at the same time. Sounds more complicated than it is. Although I only use FTM, I suspect that this method will also work with other genealogy software. The FTM folks have indicated that version V11 has improved the FILE APPEND/MERGE feature. Does anyone have any feedback on that? And Marilyn, where did you get your upgrade for $19.00+? I deal with Global Genealogy in Milton, ON who normally have the best Canadian prices. They are charging $29.95+ to upgrade from Version 10 to Version 11 and $44.95+ to upgrade from all earlier versions. I have a problem with that as they are also charging the same $44.95+ for a full feature brand new V11 package. I've been an FTM customer for years and I feel that these guys (FTM not Global) are taking advantage with a price structure like that. BTW, I have Version 9. Enough ranting.
