You are wise to make this commitment to visiting Newfoundland. My yearly visits are eagerly awaited. You should not be overly concerned about traveling alone on the Rock. There is crime but it does not seem to touch visitors. While in St John's, there are many really great B&B's which I have sampled, most of which are downtown and even in the vacinity of the Rooms. They are very convenient to shopping and a real variety of eating establishments. There are many sites on the web to get info. Sorry, others will have to provide info for Harbour Grace and Mosquitto Cove as I focus on the Burin Peninsula.
