Parents James GATES & Elizabeth Ann(e?) WHITE - that's all I know! Gertrude had a brother Hooper. Both she & Hooper left Newfoundland for England about 1909. Any info would be gratefully received. E-mail address for above person, Nicola Crozier, seeking information is: micknik@bigpond.com.au appears that this person lives in Australia. This query was put online in 2007, so hopefully Nicola Crozier still has the same e-mail address. If you are able to get the 1911 census for England, you will see where Hooper and Gertrude are living in 1911. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Twillingate Sun and Northern Weekly Advertiser 1909 January 9, 1909 Collection for Mr. John Guy (Part 2) "Collected by Mr. James OSMOND: William YOUNG, Ira BARNES, Edward ROBERTS - 50 cents each. Mr. BULGIN moving the house formerly owned by Mr. Isaac BORDEN from its original site to the bottom of Farmer's Arm. Quite a lot of houses have been hauled or about to be hauled, and we hear the total number is fifteen. Mr. Hooper GATES hauled the house that was formerly Mr. Saml. KEEFE's from Trump Island. Being a returned soldier like Mr. Kenneth LEGGE, he too was well assisted. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rae Martin Niagara Falls, Ontario
Hi Lister's! I need some assistance, pleasssssssssssssssssssse! Would anyone have an information on a Joseph Bowler, born 1732 in England, Sherwood Forest to be exact. There was a Regiment on Foot recruiting in Nottinghamshire in 1753. This would have made Joseph 21 years old. This same Regiment landed in Newfoundland in 1754. I believe Joseph was with this Regiment. Joseph had a son William Ormskirk Bowler and I am wondering if William could have possibly been born to Joseph and his wife here in Canada and not in England, as some people have suspected. William died Feb 8, 1835 in Fugit Township, Decatur, Indiana. My question is would anyone have any information on a Regiment that laned in Newfoundland in 1754 and access to any names??? I know it is a longshot but thought the answer is always "no" unless one asks. :) Thanks so much for any assistance or possible directions I could take. Rae Martin Niagara Falls Ontario
