Hi Judy I have a cd for the BMD's, 1810 - 1890. There is a Thomas Furlong who died Oct 5, 1878 at 80 years old. Here is the information it gives: Age 80 years old Event Address: Carbonear, Conception Bay Death Reference Date 1: Sat. Oct 5, 1878 Source: Harbor Grace Standard (also known as Standard & Conception Bay Advertiser) 1859 - 1936) Deceased was a native of Wexford, Ireland. I don't know if this really helps you but I thought the fact that it gave his birthplace as Wexford, Ireland that maybe this might be of some assistance??? All the best, Rae Martin, Niagara Falls, Ontario
Hello, I've heard about the book, "Erin's Sons ....," several times during the summer. I have 3 sets of ancestors who had a connection to Canada, but only one set which came from Ireland to Canada. It was a KERR / HENDERSON family-group which left Ireland in 1823. They went to the Prov. of Quebec. I was wondering if anyone has looked at the book and found it a good book to purchase. Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) (My other great-grandparents were "British Home Children" arriving in Nova Scotia in 1874. The LEWIS / CORKILL couple had come from Liverpool, England, where they had been born ~1860.) (Another great-grandfather had a grandfather who was born in New Brunswick in 1799.) (Most of the rest of my ancestors can be traced back to the 1600's in the MA Bay Colony.) (Except for a HANNAH / RITCHIE couple, born Ireland married in Scotland and left there in 1857 for Massachusetts.) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rae Martin" <sunshine@iaw.on.ca> To: "Judy Picard" <judypicard@yahoo.com>; <nfld-lab@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, September 23, 2009 12:56 PM Subject: Re: [NFLD-LAB] Erin's sons : Irish arrivals in Atlantic Canada,1761-1853 > Hi Judy > > I have a cd for the BMD's, 1810 - 1890. Rae, I have been trying to obtain info on my GGGrandfather,John Swain, who supposedly came from Ireland tp Perry's Cove, in the early 1800s, as a School Teacher. I have searched several sources, but to no avail. If you come upon info referencing him I would appreciate it. Thanks. H.
