I just googled "List of Churches" Newfoundland and got this website: http://ngb.chebucto.org/Parish/1ferr-parish-idx.shtml This would be a great subject for Wikipedia where links could be recorded for current internet information for each church listed. Do you plan to include Chapels and Meeting Houses for the Society of Friends, dissenters and Roman Catholics in such places as Carbonear, Bay ROBERTS, CLARKE's Beach and Port de Grave? These names for 'houses of worship', with long ago closed cemeteries, come to mind: 1775-1840-1900--Roman Catholic CHAPEL, Port de Grave http://portdegrave.com/history.htm abt.1890--The BETHEL Meeting House, Coley's Point before 1891--Roman Catholic Chapel, Bay ROBERTS? on the site of the Cable Office Museum? http://ngb.chebucto.org/Wills/french-isaac-6-596.shtml 1884--Reformed Episcopal Church, CLARKE's Beach http://www.tcr.gov.nl.ca/panl/vs_aids/Vit-stat_C.htm Roman Catholic Chapel, Carbonear http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cannf/cb_wills_michaeldoyle.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_Newfoundlanders I would like to see such a list, arranged in 'date of opening' order for those opened for worship before say 1899, and shared with this group of listers as information is received and organized. Your dedication to Newfoundland history and genealogy is much appreciated. I think it is much better to name the church in the sources for our family trees rather than saying Blackhead Methodist, Blackhead, NL. Obviously the current churches are not hard to find. It is the "no longer in use" churches from abandoned/resettled communities & the "no longer existing" that are a problem. Once compiled this list will be offered to all the Newfoundland genealogy lists to post on their web site. So help with those names would be greatly appreciated. I need name of church, religion & any other info (ie date the church no longer existed or community was abandoned/resettled). Please reply off-list. I will also keep track of who gave me the info just in case I receive conflicting information.
