STICKLEY and STOCKLEY etc. I have been fortunate to recently visit Portesham and Maiden Newton, where my relatives originate from. Their name is Stickland, and they have family links with the Dorey, Duck and Ford families. My great uncles were blacksmiths and I believe, kept a pub. My paternal grandmother was Lucy Stickland, one of nine children including Kate and Bess, who lived in Front Street Portesham. I have traced the family back to 1715, when Henry Stickland married Anne Duck at Maiden Newton. I found the headstone of Jeremiah Brett Stickland in the church yard at Portesham.
