Jack, I use a Canon scanner model 9950F. It comes with film carriers to fit 5 different size negatives and I have even made my own out of thin poster board for odd size negatives. I scanned all my family's old negatives and it did a great job. Author: micmak1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.canada.newfoundland.notredamebay/470.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: thanks for writing! Mary manuel was I belieeve johanna beaton and herbert manuels daughter. johanna was the first born to alfred beaton and mary paul. We are still trying to determine mary's parents and it has been suggested that it could be ben paul, but I found nothing to verify that. I think that ellen paul was her mother, and her father thomas barnes. I have the rooms true copy that ellen was micmac and that mary was illigitimate. the 1921 census from the rooms, nfld, clearly shows that mary and the children are micmac. You will need this paper to apply for your status. johanna had 7 siblings, but I found an extra girl while at the rooms in their baptismals and that was verified by one of the granddaughters saying that 2 of the girls went to nova scotia and lived on the reserve. this then makes sense to me as I could not account for one of the daughters and the 2nd fit in nicely. so that makes 8 siblings. I know that there were a set of twins born (ellen and julia) right! after johanna and that if ellen were marys mother and one of the ladies standing up for ellen at marys baptismal was julia joe (nee paul) in the book. So that is just another indicator for me that ellen was indeed mary's mother. also she was born in 1971 according to the records which fit. johannas 2nd brother is frances or frank from whom his daughter is my husbands mother, so you are indeed a cousin! How nice! I have done extensive research on this family and the extended family. If you read the other querey you will see that there may well be beothuk there. my husbands sister has the green eyes but that is not the only reason. I will be happy to answer any and all questions and help whoever needs help as the pauls are elusive and the files that I have extensive and I had to hire an archavist while at the rooms as the pauls are really hard o get info on. thanks for the questions please write again. micmakmaiden Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Mr. Barbour, I happen to stumble upon a thred (below) you posted a couple years back on RIchad Howell. I have a possible connection to my family. I'm writing from Labrador, my Howell ancestors go back to Western Bay, one of which is a Richard Howell. My notes are pretty scattered as I can't seem to make the time to sit down and figure all this out but if perhaps we can make a connection between two families, this will be well worth it!! My great great grandfather Peter Howell was born in 1834 in Western Bay. He moved to Red Bay Labrador (where my parents still live). Peter died in 1898 in Red Bay. Peter's father was Robert Howell, born in Western Bay in 1784, died in Western Bay 1868. Possibly have married a Rebecca?? I'm not sure. Robert's brother was Richard (I think thier father's name was also Richard) who married a Mary Rose in Dec 1819. I'm guessing its the same Richard, as I have five kids listed, three of which are Julia, Richard and William. Of these three, the only child I had a DOB for was William, which is the same as you listed below, 1830. I would be happy to share any info I have with you, including the little I have on all five of Richard's and Mary's children. I would also be happy to provide you with any info on the family of Peter Howell (Richard's nephew), from whom i decended from. I hope this has been some help. I would love to have some info on the other side of the family tree. I believe a Howell from Bonivista contacted my father a few years back but he couldn't make any connection at the time. Only recently have I been able to track our footsteps back past my great great grandfather Peter, who we knew was not born in Red Bay but didn't know where he came from. If I'm not greatly mistaken, I think his headstone still stands in a cemetary in Red Bay, about 100 yards from my parents house. I would be happy to send you pictures of Red Bay, if its something you would like to add to your tree maker. I look forward to hearing back from you. Hi Folks, Does anyone know if there is a cemetery listing for the abandoned community of Richard's Harbour on the south coast of Newfoundland? If not were the people buried in some other community? Take Care Tom
Hello, have been researching in Newfoundland since 1987. While maybe not the desired outcome, the circuit clergy would often baptize in one church, put the notes for transcription in their pockets and record them wherever/whenever they had the time to do so. I found this to be particularly true of RC priests. Hope this helps. ________________________________ From: Pat <MPGRANT@WOWWAY.COM> To: nfld-lab@rootsweb.com Sent: Tuesday, March 31, 2009 12:38:31 PM Subject: [NFLD-LAB] Anderson of Fortune Looking for information on William and Susannah Anderson residing in Fortune and baptizing the following children. Joseph was born in Moreton's Harbour, NFLD about 1845, baptized at age 9 on 15 Jan. 1854. His parents were Henry RUSSELL and Eleanor (Ellen) BURT. Two of Joseph's siblings were Jemima and Henry. Does any of this ring any bells? If this is the same Joseph as your grandfather's father then I have information on Joseph's ancestry (parents, grandparents etc.) which I could share with you, but I don't have information on who Joseph married or his descendents. Hope this helps! If it does then email me at the following email address. Sincerely, Jude Russell (jude.russell@sympatico.ca) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hello Everyone: I am looking for some help in finding information on the following: Stephen Gatehouse, born c 1802 ; died June 6,1842 in King's Cove,Bonavista Bay; buried in St.James Anglican cemetery there. I am 99% sure Stephen's wife was Ann Ryan, born c 1801,daughter of Edward and Elizabeth (Bound) Ryan. They had at least one daughter,Elizabeth Gatehouse, born c 1828 at Bonavista. Elizabeth married twice-- first husband was James Hunt, married Nov 29, 1842; second husband was William Tilly, married Dec 22,1847. Would anyone be able to help me with the Gatehouse and Hunt names mentioned here? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you---Martha Warren
