Waterloo Region Record - 10 Feb 2010 - with picture at therecord.com PITTS, Frances Veronica It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Frances Pitts on Sunday, February 7, 2010. Surrounded by her loving family at the Grand River Hospital, she lost her battle to complications from a stroke. Cherished wife and best friend of George Pitts for over 50 years. Loving mother of Donna Sievers (Dave) of Virginia, Brian (Tracy) of Kitchener, Carol Hunter (Brian) of Kitchener and Patti Andraza (Jason) of Cambridge. Nanny treasured her grandchildren, Christopher Hunter (Michelle), Caleb, Jada, Desirae, Emma Grace, McKenna, Sophie, Ryder and great- grandchild Katheryne-Eva. Daughter of the late Irene and Ambrose Stoyles. She will be sadly missed by her sisters and brothers and sisters and brothers-in-law. Born on Bell Island, Newfoundland on July 17, 1937. She met the love of her life, George and they married in 1958 and moved to Ontario in 1962. She worked for St. Patrick's School, Kitchener for many years and then opened her own restaurant in Preston (Donut Den). Her generous spirit, warm heart, and sense of humour combined with a love to feed everyone, resulted in a very successful business. So much so, she opened a second restaurant in New Dundee (Village Kitchen). After retiring, she concentrated on her pride and joy - grandchildren! Frances' family will receive relatives and friends at the Henry Walser Funeral Home , 507 Frederick St., Kitchener, 519-749-8467 on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of Frances' life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Friday, February 12, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. Cremation has taken place. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family. Visit www.henrywalser.com for Frances' memorial. _________________________________________________________________

STICKLEY and STOCKLEY etc. I have been fortunate to recently visit Portesham and Maiden Newton, where my relatives originate from. Their name is Stickland, and they have family links with the Dorey, Duck and Ford families. My great uncles were blacksmiths and I believe, kept a pub. My paternal grandmother was Lucy Stickland, one of nine children including Kate and Bess, who lived in Front Street Portesham. I have traced the family back to 1715, when Henry Stickland married Anne Duck at Maiden Newton. I found the headstone of Jeremiah Brett Stickland in the church yard at Portesham. She is once again with the love of her life, her husband of 51 years, Dr. Michael Walsh, who passed away 3 months ago and is dearly missed. Loving mother of Jo-Anne, Michael, Susan, Paul and David. Following the death of her eldest sister Mary, the family moved to St. John's, where Bun attended Littledale Catholic Girls School and graduated as a nurse from St. Clare's Mercy Hospital. Bun was very proud of her work as a public health nurse in St. John's. Bun and Mike met and married in St. John's and had three children before the family moved to Toronto. In the early 60's Bun supported her young family, working as a nurse in the burn unti of Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto while Mike was completing his studies in Pathology. After a brief return to St. John's, Mike and Bun moved to Barrie, Ont. in 1965 where they settled, had two sons and lovingly raised their five children in close partnership. Bun greeted everyone with a brilliant smile, sparkling eyes and a defiantly positive attitude, even in her later years, when she was in ailing health. "aYou can choose to be happy or choose to be miserable," she would say. "I choose to be happy." The family wishes to estend our deepest gratitude to the Angels on the Alloendale Ward of the IOOF Seniors Home who cared for Bun with love and compassion during the three months she waited to rejoin Mike. Also a very special thank you to Father Frank McDevitt, Pastor of St. Mary's Parish in Barrie who provided much needed wisdom and guidance during this very difficult time. William -- I have some BARNES and some ROSE in Newfoundland, and more of them in Nova Scotia, PEI and back in the UK. But let's look at just the Newfoundland ones right now. Both of them married into the same ANTLE family (the main family I am working on in Newfoundland) so it's very likely they were all acquainted with each other. Here goes: John ANTLE (1802-1850) m. 1824 in Brigus to Patience NOEL (1803-1868) Kids Mary Emma Elizabeth Ellen Patience Anne m. 23 Dec 1858 in Brigus to Samuel ROSE William James m. 27 Jan 1857 in Brigus to Elizabeth CURTIS John Isaac Stephen m. 28 Jun 1865 in St John's to Lydia CHALKER Victoria Susannah m. 7 Dec 1865 in Brigus to John BARNES Caroline Munden If you find any connections, or run into any more ANTLES, in your search I'd love to hear from you. I am new to the list and was hoping that I could get some information regarding my family tree. I have been researching the surname of BARNES and have hit a brick wall for so long now that I am getting discouraged. The biggest obstacle is the lack of closeness in the family unit. My parents were not married when I was born and my father never adopted me after they were married so my surname is ROSE and not BARNES. This I found out only after my father had passed away and I was grown. Needless to say, the only info I have is from my Aunt and it is not much, but here it goes. <SNIP> Unfortunately, this all I have to go on and I don't even know if the dates are correct. If anyone out there can help me out in anyway at all, it would be greatly appreciated. Any help at all will be appreciated. A million thanks in advance. William Rose

Hi Folks, First of all I would like to wish everyone a happy and prosperous New Year. Happy 2010. In the 1945 census for Round Harbour in Hermitage Bay there is a Theodore Kendell born 1889 who was widowed at that time. The census gives his sister Alice born in 1876 as also widowed and living in the same household. Theodore was 56 years of age in 1945 and his sister Alice was 69 years of age. Is this accurate information? Does anyone have any connection to this family? Thanks Tom Kendell
