Hello Members We would like to welcome new members to the list and say thanks to those who have stayed with this list so long. Our next roll call begins Saturday November 15th, and will end on Monday November 17th. We generally have a roll call every second month and have a great response during the three days allotted. Please read the following for guidelines and directions. ROLL CALL SITE: If you haven't updated your surname interests recently now is the time to do so. ROLL CALL: Roll Call gives each list member an opportunity to list "all" surnames they are researching. There is no reason these can't be posted at any time, however, this period is given specifically to roll calls. There is no "special" way that they need to be stated, however there are a few suggestions that we would make: i.e. capitalize the surname, include last known location and date. Guidelines: a) Everyone who chooses too will participate during the allotted time frame only (3 days). b) "Roll Call", and as many surnames as possible MUST BE LISTED IN THE SUBJECT AREA so that people who are interested, or not, may read it or delete it. c) It will last for the three days only. After the third day all "roll call" messages, will cease until the next appointed date (May 15th, 2003). d) In the body of message: List the surnames and possible areas of research and possible dates. 2. A summary of roll calls will be updated at the Roll Call site by Glynn Hewlett. Please be patient as there are many names, locations and email addresses that will have to be updated. 3. Suggestions have been made that perhaps we should list the surnames of families that have married into the families you are researching in the body of the message. I will leave that up to the individual poster. 4. This "Roll Call" is for the NFLD-LAB MAIL LIST ONLY. NEW MEMBERS/CURRENT MEMBERS Thank you for your participation. Please take advantage of this opportunity to post your surname interest(s). Some of you could at least make two to three contacts over this period. Please feel free to respond to any email that is sent to the list. Monday will be the last day for posting of roll call surnames. For those new to the list please see below the URL to the roll call page. Good Luck. Hi Andrew, If the train was Canadian it would have been operated by the CNR, I believe. If it was American, it no doubt would have been the Boston and Maine. I went to Newfoundland in 1945 via train . I lived in Lynn, right on the Saugus line, but we had to go to the North Station in Boston for the train and also we were dropped off in Boston on arriving home from Newfoundland. I lived only about a three minute walk from a Lynn train station and I only remember local travel on those trains. Frank Strugnell,Derry, N.H.

Hi List Here are some specific ships and captains who sailed to or from Newfoundland in 1809. The source is a bound volume of the surviving Lloyd's List newspapers from 1809-'10. These captains may not have anything to do with Newfoundland other than taking ships in and out; some of these captains may be Newfoundland residents, or their relatives. If anyone can add any details to these ships or people, let me know. Otherwise, this is just for anyone who may find it useful. (I find there is a decided lack of this type of information available to NF researchers). ---Michele PITTMAN-Wingerter win1@usol.com Researching the PITTMANs of Abbotsbury, Dorset and New Perlican, TB

During a 2001 vist to the Bay Roberts museum, which is situated in the old Cable building, adjoining the old R.C. Cemetery, I found records for the Anglican Cemetery in Coley's Point. I seem to recall that the transcribing work, an individual sheet for each marker, was completed by school children as a comunity project. At that time I was unaware of the locations of the oldest R.C. cemeteries at Bay Roberts and Port de Grave. Today I wonder if information transcribed from the old grave markers in those R.C. cemeteries has been posted on the internet. If so I would love to have access to the web link. Thanks, Lloyd ===== "Life is for sharing, naked we enter, naked we leave" __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Protect your identity with Yahoo! Patsy, Through the LDS Family History Center you can order the appropriate film which has the Soundex Code Index (soundex) to passenger lists of vessels arriving at New York, July 1, 1902-December 31, 1943. The soundex code for Power is P600 P 552 Maria to P 600 Maria FHL US/CAN Film 1380040 The film is a copy of the originals which may be available through the NARA center in Waltham, MA. My wife's roots, by the way are the Brien and Boland families in Outer Cove and many of their records were in Holy Trinity RC Church in Torbay. Teresa Brien of Outer Cove, a relative of my wife, married the Willie Powers, who died recently in Newfoundland. Good morning all......with Lloyd announcing some time ago that he was going to see about Loyalist connections with his family, I recall thinking, hmmm...never thought of that one?...and , yet still didn't until his announcement { this a.m. } on the Loyalist surname Royal /Ryall, of which I am researching and stuck/confused !!!....so , after just perusing around on the site he mentioned this morning and others, I am shocked at how many Loyalist names in the eastern USA are to be found in NFLD!.....It never , ever occurred to me that any of my family lines would have a Loyalist connection { probably because my main research is on my MacDonald's of Cape Breton , and I knew they came directly from Scotland and were of the first settlers to the area}..I think this may have struck me in one mind set!..Maybe there are others out there like me?..I suggest if you're unsure of where they may have come from to NFLD, check Loyalist USA names...Here are just a few of those I came across! this a.m.....you will recognise them as common to NFLD....Just food for thought , for those of us that may be hard to change!;............ Pike - Knight - Royal/Ryall - Rideout - Cook - Dow - Roberts -French - Frye - Rowe Hilyard - Russell - Babcock - Bishop - Bateman - James - Jenkins - Jordan - Kelly King - Patton - Pierce - Dwyer - Holland - Gould - Cain - and these are just a few...... ~ Ann~
Does anyone know if there is access to ship manifests from 1940? I am looking to find the ship manifest for my Aunt who left Newfoundland in 1940 around September, October, or November. She traveled to New York. If anyone can head me in the right direction, I would appreciate any help I can get. My Aunt is Margaret Power from Torbay, Newfoundland.
