Alva - Passed peacefully away at the Hoyles Escasoni Complex on November 14, 2003, C. Alva Butler, aged 87 years. Predeceased by his wife Florence (nee Lockyer) 1986, his sister Olive Kearley 2000 and his brother Bert Butler 1957. Leaving to mourn nephew David Kearly (Mary), nieces Jennifer Dwyer (Ron) and Carolyn Hicks, all of Corner Brook, as well as a number of other relatives and friends. Resting at Barrett`s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, Saturday 7-9 p.m., Sunday 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service 11 a.m. on Monday, November 17, 2003, from the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Craigmiller Avenue. Collett = silent double tt = Colle, Cole, Colley, etc. Beauchamp = sounds like Beecham pronounced by an Englishman who lives at Shepton, Beauchamp. Barre = Barre tt, Barrie, Barry etc. Tippe = Tippe tt, Tippy etc. Chafe = Sheaf etc. COLE LEE"S POINT = Cold East Point = Coley's Point..evolution of the same pronounced name. Leigh = Lee The first families to have summer fishing resorts on what was also called Indian Point were families with the surnames Cole and Leigh.
