" Statement of Lands sold at Public Auction by the Deputy Surveyor, Joshua Green , Brigus , under the Crown Lands Bill. for the year ending 1st Oct. 1848" ..So please ignore the part quoted starting " For the lands surveyed........" The amounts quoted on this paper would be what the purchase price was for that particular land, not the cost of surveying. ~ Ann~

I would love to have more information on the persons mentioned below. If you have time the other Russells of Bay Roberts are also of interest. H. {?} & S. Russell wh - Bay Roberts Henry ?? is the elusive one. Smile Sometimes I think that he was 'hiding out from the law' and often used an alias. From what I have learned so far I admire his spirit and determination, a real character of the time. When my story of his life and generation is complete you shall have a complimentary copy. Smiles. I know where he lived and the names of his parents, schooners, and in-laws. I think that S. (Stephen) was his son. In 1848 Henry was 51 yrs. of age and married to Johanna (nee Snow). I am having a good time reviewing some of the marriage records of Halifax R.C's between the period 1801 to 1830. Do you know the present day name and location of PORTUGUSE COVE, Nova Scotia and have you encountered the surname EEDS ? Looking for any information on Minnie Williams, born 20 Feb 1878 in Betts Cove, daughter of William Williams of Cornwall and Eliza Tilley orig. of Kelligrews (b. abt 1856). I'm particularly interested in verifying any of the possible information: possibly married a Newbury, possibly Salvation Army religious affiliation.
This information is copied from an article by Terrance M. Punch...quotes: "The cathedral church of the Catholic archdioces of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, is now known as St. Mary's Basilica, and is the continuattion of the oldest English-speaking parish of Catholics in Nova Scotia, that of St. Peter's church. The original church was opened in 1784 and was known as St. Peter's until 1830, and thus all the present entries pertain to St. Peter's. The earliest entry in these extracts is October 1801, though the existing registers begin in 1800. ........While 192 marriages spread over 16 years is a small number, they do indicate those areas in Ireland from which the heaviest migration to eastern British North America was then taking place...........just over 70% of the movement through Halifax from Ireland was from the five southern counties (Cork, Waterford, Wexford, Kilkenny and Tipperary.
