    1. [Fwd: Newtons in Caroline County]
    2. Newton
    3. Hi Steve. I believe that I traced Peter Newton from Caroline County, VA to KY and some of his family on to IN, OH, or IL. I think this is the same Peter Newton. I do believe he was an Uncle by the dates. I have heard through family legends (from Bobby Boyett) that Giles's parents were killed by Indians and he and a sister survived because they hid or were hidden in a hay stack. There is further speculation that the children were taken in by the Samuels family. This might explain why the family spread out in many different directions although that was common in those times anyway. It seems that the Newton's settled in newly formed counties all the way into the middle and late 1800's. They just loved the land give-aways. Another reason they moved a lot. There is also records in the Giles Newton line that "they were from the New England family of that name." If that is true and it is also true that Henry Newton (1654) is the same Henry Newton born in New England in 1654, and Giles is from the Henry Newton line, it would support that statement. There is also a Reuben, Mary, and John Newton noted in the Caroline County records. It is also possible that there are two Giles Newtons in Caroline County by the court order books dates. Sorting all that out and getting a connection is going to be difficult if not impossible. On top of all that there are records of a Giles Newton Samuels in Caroline County. The Newtons and the Samuels seem to be intertwined somehow. Thanks for the notes. Jim Newton -------------- "Steven W. Henzel" wrote: > Jim, > > Keep me posted if you can make the connection.
