    1. Re: My sole NEWTON
    2. Mrs Brown, As far as I know this was Elizabeth NEWTON's first and sole marriage. I have no idea where or when she was born as yet. I have seen copies, not in the original, of the justice of the peace (Johm Ramsay, J P) marriage entries and it clearly says "Elizabeth Newton" when she married William Morris, snr, on 18 February 1813 (book A, page 29) This is on page 42 of Preble County, O hio Marriage Records Volume I, 1808-1830. On page 43 it shows Henry NEWTON buying the license to marry Mary HURD, Joseph NEWTON marrying Rosanna RAINS (George Brown J P, book A, page 59) on 2 March 1817, and Thomas NEWTON marrying Rebecca ANDERSON (David Semple, J P, book A, page 142) on 20 October 1825. These may be her siblings. On page 292 of History of Preble County, Ohio (R E Lowry, 1981), it mentions that Thomas NEWTON and some others came to Preble County in 1803 or the early part of 1804. This may be her father. Very shortly after the 29 October 1816 birth of son Ephraim MORRIS, from whom I descend directly, Elizabeth, husband and children moved to the Opposum den Prairie area of Randolph County, Illinois. This comes from Histo rical Sketches of Randolph County, page 106, (E J Montague) published in 1859 in the Illinois State Library. She died there on 15 January 1831. I do not think that your NEWTON line is the same as mine. Then again......... Miss Dsire de Nantes <[email protected]>
