    1. Re: James Newton
    2. Trish I sent you an out line I have of the family. In an Newton Book prepared by a historical socity states James Newton born in england and died at age of ninty four. He was a sea captin and settled on the east coast of Maryland probably Dorchester County in 1740. Apparently the Newton family passed through South Carolina, as the Fairfield census ,1800 shows Newtons living in their community. James Newton killed the first Elk ever in Fairfield County. He married possibly an Aris(ayres). they had fourteen boys and two girls among them James. this doesnt exacly fit with the Jasper County book of cementarys and Bible. It goes on to say James Newton Jr , son of James Newton , who resided in Virginia until 1790, was born before 1775 and died in Jasper County Ga, between 1823 and1830 My outline is what I have peaced together form the Jasper County records , some records from my family , and the book Jasper County put out about Bibles and Cementaries. I dont know the exact organ of the Newton book put out by a Historical socitey these excerts were sent to me the book was purchased in 1930 by an aunt of one of our decendents. I hope this explains my confusion . There were a lot of James Newtons and I thank they have them confused as the time line and ages do not fit. dottie
