With all the activity lately on the list and the fact it is a new year, I'd like to bring up my g-g-g-g-grandmother Mary Newton Lee. Mary Newton married Joel Lee on 21 March 1782 in Southborough, Worcester County, MA, and published an intention of marriage in Dudley, MA, on 24 January 1782. I've figured Mary was from Southborough at the time, but I don't know who her parents are. In 1790 I found 27 Newton households listed in Southborough. (Joel's vital information is born: 21 Feb 1760 Uxbridge, Worcester Co., MA; diec 9 Oct 1822 Newfane, Windham CO., VT, buried at North Cemetery in Brookline, Windham Co., VT.) The widow Mary moved with some of her children to Rose, Wayne Co., NY, and died there 28 February 1855. The grave marker says age 93y 8m 13d, which puts her birthday around 15 June 1761. She is buried in Ellinwood Cemetery, Rose, NY. So far I don't find a Mary Lee born on 15 June 1761 in the Massachusetts vital records books and I don't necessarily trust the age on the grave marker since ages and birth dates are notoriously wrong on older grave markers. In the probate records of Joel Lee there is mention of money owed to Mr. Sir Issac Newton. He is from the Marshall Newton Jr. family from Shrewsbury, MA. So far, I haven't been able to connect Mary to that family. It seems to me Mary should be connected to the Newton families around Southborough, Marlborough, Sudbury, Shrewsbury, etc.--descended from Richard and Anne (Loker) Newton, but I am stuck and have been for some years. Some day I hope someone will come onto this list who may have some clues--perhaps a reference to Mary Newton who married a Lee. Anyone working on Newton families Massachusetts? Many thanks for any help. Best wishes, Gary
