    3. Hi Phinehas, Thank you for offering to check. About a decade ago I rented microfilm of the book and studied it. Mrs. Leonard very conveniently left out Mary. Perhaps she didn't know where to place Mary. I'm always hoping that somewhere exists a Newton family Bible, probate record, will, or something else that will give the answer I've been seeking: Who are the parents of my Mary Newton? My best guess is there is a connection to Richard and Anne (Loker) Newton because of the locality, but I could be wrong. Some families used family names for the names of their children, but in Joel and Mary (Newton) Lee's children I don't see Joel Lee's family's names except for Joel. The children are Alfred, Lyman, William Collins (I'm guessing there was someone they named him for), Sally, Joel Newton, Polly, and John Wesley Lee. Thanks to all who can keep an eye out for my Mary who might be lurking among their Newtons. Best wishes, Gary --- PhinehasNewton@aol.com wrote: > Gary, > > I have the Ermina (Newton) Leonard book and > will take a look this > weekend for Mary who married Joel Lee. 3. Hi Folks, I don't know the answer, but I think it is worth considering, or at least knowing the possibilities of another DNA test...perhaps even if applied only to other families people are researching. The mtDNA passes from mother to child. So if someone can be found who has Mary as their mother's mother's (etc.) mother, then you can have them tested for mtDNA, and then match them up to to a similarly described descendant of your "target" person. This could identify Mary's mother. The tracing is a little tricky, since the surname changes every generation, but if Mary had several daughters, then there is a decent chance you can do it. I think this is germane to the NEWTON DNA Project, and this type of thing could be done under the auspices of the project. Best, Gregg Bonner Bethany, Oklahoma, USA --- "Gary K.
