Hi, I posted this query in 1997 when I formerly subscribed to this list. I was off the list in 1998 and 1999. I am stuck trying to find out who the parents are of my Mary Newton who married Joel Lee of Dudley, MA, on 21 Mar 1782 at Southborough, Worcester Co., MA. Joel was born 21 Feb 1760 at Uxbridge. They had three children born at Dudley before they moved to Townshend, Windham Co., VT before 4 Mar 1793. My current best guess is that she is a descendant of Richard Newton (d. 24 Aug 1701 "almost a hundrid years old") and Anne Loker, who settled first in Sudbury, MA, and then in Marlborough, MA, when it was formed. On the 1790 census there were 27 Newton households in Southborough. There is a book published years ago on this family line (author's last name was Leonard), but the author conveniently left out my Mary--perhaps because she couldn't figure out how to fit her into the family. I don't have a reliable birth date right now. However, going by the age of 93y 8m 13d on her stone (death date 28 Feb. 1855) at Rose, Wayne Co., NY, she would have been born about 15 June 1761. I am wondering if perhaps she was born somewhere other than Southborough. I was looking at a Mary Newton, daughter of Joshua and Mary (Bellows) Newton, but another look at the Leonard book indicates that this Mary married someone else. Mary's husband Joel Lee died 9 Oct. 1822 and is buried at Brookline, VT. In his probate papers there is mentioned payment to Sir Isaac Newton, son of Marshall Newton Jr. Marshall came from Shrewsbury. I thought this might be a clue, but so far it hasn't led me to Mary's birth record. I thought I would try posting this again in case someone is on the list now who knows more about the descendants of Richard and Anne (Loker) Newton. Thanks for any help. Gary Gary K.
