Hi Folks, An upgrade from 12 markers to 25 in the "O" samples revealed that the original match (a perfect 12/12) was likely coincidental. This happens sometimes when the surname is common enough (which NEWTON is), and the DNA type(s) is/are common enough. These two samples are now relatively remote, with 10 mutations between them (matching at only 20 of 25 markers). Those folks who have common DNA types, or who match or nearly match others in the NEWTON Surname DNA Project and who have only tested at 12 markers should consider upgrading. In fact it is very nearly enough for me to _a priori_ recommend 25 markers for new participants. We now have a total of 38 samples returned to the lab for testing :) I am happy to try to answer any questions.
