The identity of Richard's parents has never been determined. The record of his death in 1701 gives his age as almost 100, so his birth date would have been 1602 at the earliest. People have searched the records of of Burres St. Marys and surrounding churches for his baptism without success. The autobiography of Sir Isaac Newton mentions an uncle named Richard Newton, who would have been about the correct age to be the immigrant, but there is no evidence that this was the same person.
