    1. Re: [NEWTON] DNA Project updates (answering Monty's questions)

    3. Hi Folks, There are two different dates given on the Project webpage for revision dates. First, there is the date associated with "All project data", which is the link near the top of the Project webpage. Second, there is the date associated with last update of the webpage, which is given at the bottom of the Project webpage, just above my e-mail address. The 24 OCT 2006 date is referring to "all project data", and not "last update". I was confused because the verbiage in Monty's post quoted "last update", but gave the date associated with "all project data". The "last update" refers to the last time I revised the HTML at the Project webpage, even if it is just to correct a typo. But sometimes I make the revision, and forget to update the "last update" date stamp. In any case, it now reads 02 JUN 2009, as that is the last time I changed it. The "All project data" date (24 OCT 2006) is just the date associated with the last time all the Y-chromosome measurements (regardless of which lab did the testing, and how many markers were tested) were compiled into a single source document. The reason there is a main Project webpage with a results table, and also an "All project data" table is that there is need to represent two different widths of tables. In the main Project results table, only the first 25 markers are shown because of browser width limitations, even if participants tested at 37 or 67 markers. Having a data table 67 columns wide would cause readability problems for the non-tabular parts of the webpage. Since the other is just tabular data, it is okay to represent it in all its excessive width. The reason the "All project data" link has not been revised since the date given is because all data produced subsequent to that date is reflected in the data presented in the other link, that is to say, here: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/newton/default.aspx?section=yresults Thus the "all project data" really only serves as an archive for participants' DNA values beyond 25 markers where they tested somewhere other than FTDNA. I figured I would give the interested 3rd party a shot at all the values, even though interpretation has been possible in 25 markers in every case so far. Best, Gregg > > Why does the link provided - take me > > to the results page - that reads 'last updated > > 10/24/06.".
