laine, Your's is one of the few Newton lines that I have found with Newton's in California in the late 1800's. My Newton line has been a dead end and I was wondering if you have come accross any Newton's in Orange County or San Francisco. My grandfather is George Fulton Newton. Born in Fullerton, Orange County, California 1893-1895 (no exact date is one of my problems). He lived most of his adult life in San Francisco. Was an optomotrist, optician in San Francisco. Kind of a recluse. Lived in Oakland in 1923 while he was married to Jeanne E. Kelley. Divorced around the time of my mother's birth in 1923. Later married a woman named Esther. He died sometime after 1951 in San Francisco. Without any exact dates I have been unable to find out much. His mother's maiden name may have been Hastings and the Hastings family lived in Stockton, California. Hello Linda, I will keep an eye out for your realations. But so far I am as lost as you are. My Grandfather just disappeared after the second marriage to Myrtle Long. He was a gambler and not of the best character, so think he stayed low on purpose. My Mother is 88 years young, and I am determined to find as much about her father as I can while she is still living. Since you have the occupation of your grandfather, can't you search records of occupation, or even his social socurity information through San Francisco and Oakland??? Good luck in your search.
