To Newton Cousins and Namesakes I'm searching for parents and other relatives of Robert Newton b. 1747 Bucks Co., PA; served in Amer. Rev. 1775-1781 in NC Militia, lived in Mecklenburg, NC (not VA) 1775-1799; moved to Buncombe Co., NC 1799; moved to Hopkins Co., KY area abt. 1805, where he died in 1835. He was married to Elizabeth (surname unknown, as are date and place). Children included: Robert Jr., James, John, Elizabeth, Frances. Descendants of Robert Newton lived in Hopkins & Webster counties, KY; Montgomery Co., Ill., & Chariton/Linn Co., MO. Robert seemed to have followed the Rev. George Newton, first from Pennsylvania (Robert was b. in Bucks Co., George in York), then to Mecklenburg Co., NC in 1775 and Buncombe Co. in 1799, two years after the Rev. George moved there. Is it coincidental or could there be a link? There is also a tradition in my family that the Newtons came from Cherokee, or Native American stock but that's all the info I have. I'm willing to share what info I do have. Hope to have a website soon. Peggy Newton [email protected]
