I have a note about Jabez Newton b. May 1821 Tolland Co., CT? and living in 1900 at San Joaquin Co., CA. Married Mary unknown b. March 1832 VA, alive 1900. The note says he went to CA in 1849. Sadly this note is unattributed, so other then the census of 1900 CA, so I don't know how accurate it is. I have not tried to look for him in earlier censuses. The note connected him to the Newton/Loker family. I'll look further for the note, and see if there is something I missed. (Could this note come from the Newton Genealogy by Leonard?) 1.
