Nora, My NEWTONS were New Yorkers also, but arrived in 1860 from London. I believe that they were preceeded by relatives so I'll run some of my tree past you, just in case, I corresponded with Su about a year ago, so am pretty positive that we do not have any connection beyond the fact that our Newtons were Jewish and from England. --My ggrandparents, Joseph and Adelaide NEWTON were born in the 1860s and lived in Brooklyn until their deaths. They were the parents of Leah, Jacob, Joseph, Muriel, Lucille and Louis. --Joseph NEWTON's parents were John(Jacob) NEWTON and Elizabeth MILSOM. John and Elizabeth were born in London in 1845. They also had David and Maurice after immigrating to NY abt 1860. Elizabeth died in NY and John remarried Meta? and moved to Wilkes Barre. PA. He died there in 1913 after having 6 more children, several of whom headed to the midwest. --The parents of John(Jacob) were Maurice NEWTON and Catherine CANTOR. They were born in London abt 1820 and never left. They also had Anna, Louis, Frederick, Emily, David and Edward. Only Frederick, Emily and Edward stayed in England. --Maurice's father was Issac NEWTON. I don't have any information on Issac and his siblings, wife or parents yet beyond the fact that he lived in London. Mary Ann
