    3. Hi Bryan, My ggrandfather was JS Newton, son of William Newton. In our family, we've never been quite sure if the J in JS represented "John" or "Jasper". Anyway, JS was born in MS to Willam (b. NC) and Elizabeth (b. SC) Newton. JS fought in the Confederacy during the Civil War and ended up in Texas where my grandfather, father, and the rest of us were born. Does any of this information sound similar to you and are we talking about the same John and William? 3. Here is what I have on my husband's maternal grandmother: Walter Griggs married (Futrell, W.G.married Newton, Mattie May Aug 1902) Mattie May (note that her middle name was spelled as the month of May, not Mae. We have this documented in her Bible in her handwriting.) Newton in 1902. Mattie also stemmed from an old Hardeman County family who moved from Harrisburg, Kentucky (got this piece of information about Harrisburg, Ky. verbally from a Newton descendent. Cannot verify it yet.) to Saulsbury Tennessee before the Civil War. Her parents were Jeff S. Newton and Madora Ann Finger Newton. Are any of these Newtons in your book? If so, I definitely would be interested in a copy. Linda J.
