The Newton Surname DNA Project homepage has been revised to include newer data. The sample provider claims purely paternal descent from the James Newton who was b. 1775, Tynemouth, England, and died 1835, Georgetown County, South Carolina. This sample represents a new 12-marker DNA type for the Newton Surname DNA Project, and thus has accordingly been assigned its own node, being "Node '37'". Among existing samples in the project, the ones genetically closest (12 markers only - matches did not hold up against more markers) are Nodes B, O, and 32. Thus folks interested in those groups may want to exchange information on possible connections to South Carolina and earlier in England. To see a network diagram showing the genetic distances between groups, see this graphic: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~gbonner/newtondna/fluxus20120509.jpg The 3 nodes mentioned are bottom center in the above graphic. The new node (37) will be placed on the dot in the middle of those 3 nodes. More details can be found at the Project website: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~gbonner/newtondna/ Best, Gregg Bonner Newton Surname DNA Project Group Administrator
Dear Gregg, I'd like to thank you for your hard work in caring for the Newton DNA project. I'm in contact with the Stafford DNA project--on my mother's side, & the Newtons are far, far ahead in number of participants & web site clarity. Thank you so very much. Question. At one time you considered placing me with those in MOW since we all claim the same ancestors. Will the DNA from Donald Puckett Newton coincide with mine & theirs too? As always, thank you so very much. Merle.
