Reporting another sample that is in the group of closely related DNA types, indicated as nodes M/O/W/Z. The participant claims descent from George Newton, the father of Ellis D. Newton (1844-1885). Others claim this George is the son of Isaac Newton and Margaret Harrell, and that this Isaac is the son of Jacob Newton and Lois Jones (for whom we have an existing DNA Project participant). So the descent is most like node Z, but the DNA itself is node O2. Since there is another O2 sample, but it does not agree exactly with this sample at all 37 markers, the new sample is technically O2b, making the prior O2 sample O2a, but I don't represent that on the Project webpage because to get the scrolling data table to work, I need a fixed width, and adding that extra character to the node names would cause a lot of extra work for almost nothing (at this point). So, suffice it to say that the new DNA result is consistent with other samples of the M/O/W/Z group, and it would appear those related Newtons in Lincoln Parish, LA, and earlier in Alabama did come from Duplin County, NC, or in any case were closely related to those who did, and about whom I have written to this list previously. We are to the point now where we have enough samples from these related nodes testing enough markers that we may soon be able to identify the descent of some Newton folks even without benefit of much traditional genealogical evidence. Already we can pretty much say you are in the Duplin Group if you match or are near a M/O/W/Z node. Soon we will be able to parse those descents more finely.
