The Newton Surname DNA Project homepage has been revised to include the newest data. The sample provider claims descent from the Thomas Newton (b. 21 March 1792) who married Mary Schofield, 19 October 1817, Darton, Barnsley, Yorkshire. This sample represents a new 12-marker DNA type for the Newton Surname DNA Project, and thus has accordingly been assigned its own node, being "Node '36'". Among existing samples in the project, the one genetically closest is sample 63438 (node W). You may recall that some of the Newtons from Duplin County, North Carolina have been shown to be in a close-grouping cluster of nodes of type M, O, and W. So those who have interest in that genealogy may want to inspect the information for possible connections. Personally, I think the genetic distance is a little far to be likely to be linked through documentation, but others may disagree. At 12 markers, the new sample (266550) matches at 11 of 12 markers with 63438, and is only one increment away on the marker that doesn't match (a 13 at 385b, compared to a 14 at 385b for sample 63438). At 25 markers, there is also a mismatch at DYS458, and at least one in the DYS464 set of markers.
