The NEWTON Surname DNA Project webpages were revised due to the results being reported for a new sample (kit# B2430). Indicated claimed descent is from the following patriarch: Ebenezer Newton Born: May 1838, North Carolina. Married: Nancy Jane Jones, 08 August 1858, Iron County, Missouri. Died: 04 January 1912, Henderson, Baxter County, Arkansas. The sample matched (not terribly surprisingly) to: kit# 58849 Node V1 (near perfect match to 25 markers) kit# 206818 Node V2 (perfect match to 25 markers) NEWTON, Ebeneezer (claimed patriarch for both) Born: Abt. 1725, York County, Pennsylvania. Married: Elizabeth Buchanan, Pennsylvania. Died: 29 April 1812, North Carolina. These samples are all nearly perfect matches also to: kit# 78457 Node Y NEWTON, William (claimed patriarch) Born: Abt. 1807, North Carolina. Married: Abt. 1831, Elizabeth [--?--], South Carolina. Died: Bet. 1870 & 1880, Township #6, Lauderdale County, Mississippi. Node V has been split (into nodes V1 and V2) since the results for kit# 206818 were reported by the lab. I have finally revised the Project webpage to reflect this split. The V1 and V2 nodes are almost perfect matches, and their representatives claim the same patriarch, so the representation of the split should NOT be taken as evidenced that they are in any way substantially different. They are in every way substantially the same. So we now have a node cluster of a single genetic family of Newtons which encompasses Nodes V1, V2, and Y.
