    3. Hello Patricia, Your post is interesting! There is an oral family story that my NEWTON ancestors were related to Lady Emma HAMILTON ( the mistress of Horatio NELSON) and there are a number of NEWTON's here in Australia with Hamilton as a given name! I have yet to find a connection. My gg grandfather was Edward Thomas NEWTON he was born in London, England on 28th Nov 1813 and baptised on 26th Dec 1813 in the parish of St George in The East, Tower Hamlets, County of Middlesex (London). Son of Thomas Edward & Sarah NEWTON whose abode was Ratcliff Highway. Father's Trade: Slop Seller (working aprons, clothes etc). Edward Thomas NEWTON came to Australia in the early 1830s firstly to Tasmania before coming to Victoria where he was living at Melbourne in 1837 to 1843. He moved to Alberton in the South Gippsland district of Victoria in 1843, where he died in 1882. To see more about this family check out my website "John Howe's Genealogy" http://mc2.vicnet.net.au/home/jhgen/web/index.html Regards John Howe Moama, NSW, Australia Message: 2 Date: Sun, 23 Oct 2011 11:28:19 -0500 From: "Al and Patricia Westerfield" <westerfield@charter.net> Subject: [NEWTON] Newton-Bonaparte connection? My family told a story about a connection to Napoleon some said through Empress Josephine, hence my grandmothers maiden name, Josephine Newton (1870-1955). I never put much stock in these musings. However, I just came across the birth record for my great grandmothers nephew, Charles Newton (1912-1994). it listed his father (my great-grandmother's younger brother) as Samuel Eugene Napoleon Bonaparte Newton. Truly weird! Any thoughts? Patricia
