    1. [NEWTON] Reunion at Alberton for descendants of Edward Thomas NEWTON
    2. John Howe
    3. Calling all descendants of Edward Thomas NEWTON and Elizabeth MARTIN to a family gathering on October 2-3 at Alberton/Yarram, Gippsland, Victoria, Australia where Edward Thomas NEWTON lived between 1843 and his death in 1882. The Alberton cemetery contains many family graves. I now believe that Edward Thomas NEWTON was born on 28th November 1813 and baptised on 26th December 1813 at St George in the East, Tower Hamlets, County of Middlesex (London) in England. His parents were Thomas Edward and Sarah NEWTON. Edward Thomas Newton came to Tasmania in the early 1830s before coming to Victoria where he was living at Melbourne in 1837 to 1843. He moved to Alberton in the South Gippsland district of Victoria in 1843, where he died in 1882. To see more about this family check out my website "John Howe's Genealogy" http://mc2.vicnet.net.au/home/jhgen/web/index.html Planned activities for the weekend include a display of the Family Bible, family tree information and photos, at the function room in the Yarram library; a combined picnic and photo; a tour [maybe self-guided] of places around the district where family lived at Alberton, Alberton West (Devon), Binginwarri etc., plus visits to Alberton cemetery and Port Albert Maritime Museum. There may be a few costs related to setting this up and if families would like to donate $10 that would be appreciated (cheques, postal notes or direct transfer to J. Newton BSB 063 502 00294495 clearly marked for Newton reunion). Any extra money could go towards grave marking or maintenance at the Alberton cemetery (The Martin family have very recently constructed a cairn with a grave remains embedded.) Some preliminary indication of intention to attend and /or set up a display would be appreciated by 30 June 2010. We would also appreciate it if you could pass this message on to other relations who may be interested and will not have heard from us, and to provide an email address if you have one. Please give an initial indication of your intention to attend with John Howe jbh@bordernet.com.au Regards John Howe great great grandson of Edward Thomas NEWTON
