Hello Gay: As you can see, I am behind in my e-mail. Do you have any of the children of John b. 1750 in VA? I am still searching for my Newton's and have hit a major wall. My Newton's started in VA, NC, then to TN, then to ARK. How about your John? I hate to be a burden to you but if possible (and I doubt it) if you ever run across an America Newton B:1849 or 52 D:1889 married a Benjamin Clemons I would deeply appreciate it. The reason I have little hope of you running across any information on her is that I have found zero info on her and NO ONE ever seems to remember her or knows of where she could have come from. I'm beginning to think she may have been American Indian trying to hide the fact...seems she did a very good job of it. She was my G G Grandmother who lived in Ky. and is the missing link in the family line. Thank you for your time. Keeping in touch...Rita -----Original Message----- From: Reiley Kidd <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Thursday, February 24, 2000 10:20 PM Subject: Re: Thomas Newton >According to the book, "The Way of the Leaf," by Ted R. According to the book, "The Way of the Leaf," by Ted R. Newton, only 3 sons of this couple came to the colonies (this is presumed, because no further record of them is found for a period of time, rather than hard evidence that they were indeed here), and two of them supposedly returned to England. Only a Benjamin Newton is supposed to have stayed, and he left only one child, Ebenezer Newton of York Co., PA and later Rutherford Co., NC. I just got my copy of this book from the author. It deals primarily with the branch of Newtons who were in PA in the mid-1700s, and who migrated to central and western NC by 1767, descendants of Ebenezer Newton. Copies can be obtained from the author. His address and phone number are: 4601 Brownsboro Road Louisville, KY 40207 502-893-8319 I have never met him, and don't have any financial interest in promoting this book. Since I am researching the NC Newtons, I found the book informative and worth the $25 price. Hello, I found this on Weakley Co., TN web site. I remember someone was interested. I thought I would pass it on. I have no other info available. Just remembered the name "Seaborn," and thought it was unusual. PAYNE I am looking up info on my family, surname PAYNE. My great-great-grandmother was named Sina Payne, born March 1, 1852, in Weakley Co., died Dec. 4, 1947, in Paris. She first married Richard Foy from Graves Co., Ky. Her parents were Seaborn Payne, born in Davidson Co., 1819, and her mother was Martha Ann Ross, born 1828 in Weakley Co. I am looking for any info, but especially where the Paynes are buried. I know Sina was buried in Foy Cemetery in Ky., but cannot find her parents or brothers and sisters. Also, I need info on her second husband--William Newton. The Paynes and Newtons owned land next to each other on the Obion River. I have no info on Mr. Newton. I'm having trouble finding Paynes--I think because of the courthouse fire in Weakley Co. Hi! I recall reading sometime last year or even the year before that work was taking place on the genealogy of Isaac Newton, the British physicist. Does anyone know how this work is progressing? Lucy

Sorry for the last message. I meant it to go only to the writer of the query regarding Narcissa Newton. But perhaps my error will illustrate how the list sometimes can provide a clue or even a connection. Reiley Kidd
I absolutely cannot believe my eyes here! I've spent the day entering data from a book I just got, entitled "The Way of the Leaf" by Ted R. Newton of Louisville, KY, and JUST entered the data about Narcissa Newton when your note came in! This Narcissa was born 1833, the daughter of Solomon and Keziah Farley Newton, in Macon Co.,NC. Does this date fit with the Narcissa you are looking for?! If so, you'll want to get a copy of this book, because this book (and other sources) can take you back four more generations, to Ebenezer Newton of PA, b.abt. 1725. Do any of you have a Samuel R. Newton born in VA and on the Patrick Co, VA census in 1830 who married a Frances Jones and moved to Polk Co, TX , is found on the 1846 Polk Co, TX census. Samuel and Frances Jones-NEWTON had 2 daughters Elizabeth and Ophelia (my great-grandmother who lived to be 91 and is buried in Waco, McLennan Co TX) NEWTON. Ophelia married Thomas Pascal Barker and had my grandfather Jackson Thomas Barker in Huntsville, Walker Co, TX. Samuel owned a store at Newton's Crossing in Walker CO, TX.
