Hi list! I have corresponded with some of you in the past and I have also posted this message to the GenForum. I have just finished typing up Newton extracts from the Duplin Co. Pleas and Quarters. This info is from about 1784 to 1814 and is 10 pages. Anyone interested please e-mail me. I have also started compiling a Newton database of Duplin and New Hanover Co. Newtons. Since there is no conclusive data about where the earliest generation of these Newtons came from, I have grouped them all under an unknown Newton for now. Eventually I hope to post it to the web, but I am still looking at formats, etc. This is not something to look for in the next week or so, but a long term project. :) In this database I want to include solid sources. Court records, bible records, etc. Personal accounts, stories, and legends could also be included but would be referenced as such. Alot of this is still in the thinking stages but I want this to be something that everyone can share for free. Any thoughts from the group? Thanks, Karen

Right - though recently most of the Newton list has been with Newtons from SC, et al. The Richard Newton you mention is indeed the one I spoke of. According to my notes on him: LDS files (and others) give 18 JAN 1590 as a date of birth for Richard. Leonard, Ermina Newton, "Newton Genealogy" pub. Bernard Ammidown Leonard, De Pere, Wisconsin, 1915 notes that he was nearly 100 years old when he died in 1701. A more likely date of birth would have been 1603-5. He immigrated to Massachusetts in 1638. (This information from Heidi Goodsite via internet) Richard was born Abt. April 8, 1611 in York, EN - in 1645 he was made a Freeman - From the Web Worldconnect Project - Richard newton b. ABT 1610 in prob. Essex, England, d. 24 Aug 1701 in Marlborough, MA The following is the 'family group sheet' I have for Richard (it does go on a bit): Husband: NEWTON, Richard Born: About 1610, Of Bures St Mary, Suffolk, England Christened: About 1610, Bures St Mary, Suffolk, England Died: 24 August 1701, Southborough, Worcester, Massachusetts Buried: August 1701, Southborough, Worcester, Massachusetts Married: 9 August 1636, Bures St. Mary, Suffolk, England Wife: LOKER, Anne(Hannah) Born: 1 August 1605, Bures Saint Mary, Suffolk, England Christened: 1 August 1605, Bures St Mary, Suffolk, England Died: 5 December 1697, Marlborough, Middlesex, Massachusetts Buried: December 1697, Marlboro, Massachusetts (This information from Heidi Goodsite via internet) Marriage in Suffolk Co., England. There were a bunch of Isaacs back there, and some even were named Sir Isaac, which is a bit presumptious - the real Sir Isaac had no offspring. I think the New England Register is the most accurate date - they found a church in Suffolk with record of the marriage of Richard and Anne Loker and birth of Hannah (aka Anne?) over there. E.N.Leonard found her death date MA, but no birth and assumed she was one of those born and died the same day. Not so. (Actually, cousin Ermina was usually quite accurate and did it all with mail and travel- an amazing piece of work.) I have a Heritage (Mac genealogy program) file of Newtons from Richard down to Elijah (my gggrandfather), and another from Elijah down to my sister's two great grandchildren. If these would be helpful, I could send you a Gedcom version - which, of course, you can get into any genealogical program. Hello, I saw your message to Kate and thought I would place my GG Grandmother's name with you. I can not find any info on her at all. No one has any connection with her, she is truly a "lost" family member. Her name was America Newton b:1852 d:1889 She married a Benjamin Clemons in 1869. This is all the info that I have on her. Please keep her name on a list just in case you run across it. Any info would be greatly appreciated...it is as if she never existed and that bothers me. Thank you for your time. Dear List, Does anyone have any knowledge of Fannie M. Gould born October 22, 1868 in Windham County, CT (either Pomfret or Putnam or Abington) or possibly born across the border in RI. Fannie married a man with the surname Newton and they may have lived in Massachusetts or another state. Fannie M. Gould was an only child born to William Putnam Gould 1839-1917 and Elizabeth Copeland. William P. Gould was a veteran of the Civil War. He was born in Rhode Island, lived his adult life in CT and is buried in Pomfret, Windham County, CT with the rest of his family. He refers to his only living child as Fannie M. Newton. Does anyone have a printed Newton genealogy that they might find a listing for my mystery woman: Fannie M. Gould Newton?? Janice Gould Johnson

Seeking information on Pamelia/Permelia/Amelia NEWTON (b. abt. 1769 in Dorchester Co., MD), who married Thomas HICKS, 12 May 1789 in Dorchester Co. Who are her parents? Primary suspects at the moment are Willis and Milcah NEWTON. Willis was son of Edward NEWTON (b. abt. 1706) of Dorchester Co. Circumstantial evidence supporting my suspicions: Pamelia and Thomas Hicks had children Willis and Milcah, which are unusual names, to say the least. More circumstantial evidence: Willis had a sister Lily who married and moved to Ross Co., OH. Pamelia and Thomas Hicks also moved to Ross Co., OH. Looking through various archives and forums, I see that the names Permelia and Willis hang on in Newton families that went south to Georgia and South Carolina, so I have to wonder about a connection between those families and the Dorchester Co. Newtons. I say this partly for the benefit of any of you folks who are getting nowhere in your efforts to trace the roots of southern Newtons: take a look at Dorchester Co., MD. Now my questions: 1) Do you have any information about Dorchester Co., MD, or Ross Co., OH, Newtons or any Newton families in which the names Willis and Permelia occur? 2) Can you suggest any resources which may yield information? Has any professional research been done on Newtons in this part of the country? Any light you can shed here will be greatly appreciated, and of course I will be happy to share whatever information I have already. Nan Runde Rochester, NY [email protected]
Greetings everyone, I'm fairly new to the list and I thought it was time to post a question. I'm researching part of my wife's family which includes Newtons. We're interested in acquiring as much information as possible on this Surname. Anyways, my wife's Great Grandmother who is Helen Newton b. January 23, 1896, in Maple Rapids, Michigan, and d. May 5, 1988 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, was married to Aubrey Glenn Sr. Brooks. Helen's parents were Ezra Ide Perin Newton, b. August 16, 1858 in Maple Rapids, Michigan, and d. August 25, 1925. Place of death is unknown. Helen's mother was Winifred Payne. (Might be spelled Paine.) If anyone has any of this information in their database, I would be willing to trade the family data I have for any data you have. Sincerely, Rich Aspenleiter Rich Aspenleiter 4417 S. Hi: Well, I really do not know much about my family of Newton's. I have a William Wilkins Newton b. @1810 in TN who married Nancy Haley. They had children named George G.(1840 TN), William J.(1842 TN), Amanda D.(1843 TN), Nancy J. (1845 MS), Mary C. (1846 MS), John W. ARK in 1860, then William Wilkins is gone, possibly dead, and his wife Nancy is living with older son George G. and the rest of brothers and sisters. John Newton b. 1878 NC shows up in Madison Co. Newton b. 1820 also, with several other children who have the last name of Newton, who we do not know if they are his, or other family. Some researchers say this John b. 1878 was living in Giles Co, TN, others say Bedford, TN, so, I am stuck there. John and Pulaski disappear in 1860 census. I tried e-mailing you privately, but it came back. Do you have any further information on the first son of George and Ursula Newton. I have a John Newton [email protected] 1778, who ended up in ARK in 1850. He had a son named William W. Newton, and one Pulaski Newton. He had a daughter named Malina also. My William W. Newton went to Tishomingo Co. MS in 1845-1847. I also notice that beside the W. in your John W. Newton b. 1778 is a number 2. What doest he 2 stand for? Could there be any connection? Thanks, Alberta Barry [email protected]
