laine, Your's is one of the few Newton lines that I have found with Newton's in California in the late 1800's. My Newton line has been a dead end and I was wondering if you have come accross any Newton's in Orange County or San Francisco. My grandfather is George Fulton Newton. Born in Fullerton, Orange County, California 1893-1895 (no exact date is one of my problems). He lived most of his adult life in San Francisco. Was an optomotrist, optician in San Francisco. Kind of a recluse. Lived in Oakland in 1923 while he was married to Jeanne E. Kelley. Divorced around the time of my mother's birth in 1923. Later married a woman named Esther. He died sometime after 1951 in San Francisco. Without any exact dates I have been unable to find out much. His mother's maiden name may have been Hastings and the Hastings family lived in Stockton, California. If you or anyone else comes accross this line I would greatly appreciate you sending me any information you stumble accross. Thanks, Linda M. Hello Linda, I will keep an eye out for your realations. But so far I am as lost as you are. My Grandfather just disappeared after the second marriage to Myrtle Long. He was a gambler and not of the best character, so think he stayed low on purpose. My Mother is 88 years young, and I am determined to find as much about her father as I can while she is still living. Since you have the occupation of your grandfather, can't you search records of occupation, or even his social socurity information through San Francisco and Oakland??? Good luck in your search. I will keep you in my mind if I come across any information about your family. Thank you for writing, Alaine ----- Original Message ----- From: "Linda M. Hi, I noticed your query, and see a possible connection. I have a John F. Newton, son of John Oliver Newton and his wife Katherine Swofford Newton of Rutherford Co., NC, who was born about 1850 in NC. I have no other information on him, but have considerable info on his ancestors. My info comes from a book on the Newtons of this area. Does the birth year fit? Dear List, Newton Families of Eastern NC http://www.homestead.com/ncnewtons I think many of you already know my web page? It is dedicated to collecting data on, you guessed it, the Eastern NC Newtons. Coming soon, (look for these in a couple of weeks) Newtons listed in "North Carolina Troops 1861-1865" and Newtons listed on the 1850 and 1860 Slave Census for Duplin and New Hanover Counties. I also hope to have a search engine on the page in the near future. Karen Roberts DeLand, FL
Hello Listers, I am looking for info on John Frank Newton, supposed to be born in North Carolina, married to Flora Ann ??, moved to Sevier County Arkansas sometime between 1895 and 1900. Land records show John and Flora owning land in Sevier Co. and selling timber to several different timber companies. I cannot find them in the 1900 or 1910 census. Family story tells that John got into some kind of trouble and had to sell much of his land. We know he died before 1915, because Flora Ann was admitted to a mental hospital in 1915, as a widow, one week after the death of an unknown grandchild. Flora remained there until her death in 1933, no records show her to have ever had a visitor. ??? Family story also says that the County that John Frank came from in North Carolina was mostly Newtons. Children of John F. Newton and Flora Ann Jim Newton--unknown Belle Newton--unknown Linda Newton, DOB 1887 married Dudley Jones son of John M. Jones, 1902 Sevier Co., AR Children of Linda Newton and Dudley Jones Houston, Cecil, Fletcher, Inez, Clyde, twins Louis Carl and Louis Carroll. My Newton's ended in Ohio/Michigan and Nebraska, not sure where they started (my mother was a Newton, don't have much info so hope someone comes up with a name I can connect too). What is the source of information that the Peter Newton, who fought in Clark's Illinois Regiment, did you find where he enlisted in Caroline Co. VA? This is supposedly my ancestor, the father of Peter Newton, Jr., whose son is John E. Newton, my gr-grandfather. He rec'd a land grant in Clark's Grant in southern Indiana, but sold it, and purchased land from the State of Kentucky that was in Mercer Co., KY. He was residing in Bullitt Co., KY when he and wife, Mary, sold the land. Mary K. (Newton) Nowlin
Hi Geralene, The information I referred to was yours, which I had planned to attribute to you. It is the extensive information you provided to me several months ago. I was just going to pass it along. Since you have contacted me, do you mind if I refer the author of "long shot" to you? I didn't want to refer anybody to someone else without asking first but didn't have your address readily available to contact you. We discovered during previous correspondence that our lines are close, mine being through John McCall Newton (married to Jennie *wood--last name uncertain, thought to be Arrowood). I STILL haven't found her yet, but then a lot has happened around here since we last were in contact. Take care, Laura Champion Paulk Orlando, FL
On another list that I am on, we, that have Genealogy webpages of our family lines, are sending it to the list for all to compair and see if we they can find their lost relations. I'd like to start the same thing on this list if no one cares. My Webpage is; http://www/psnw.com/~concord4/ , click on the NEWTON Line, If you find any of your family, please contact me, Thanks Alaine in California
Looking for the Newton woman who had a child with Brumsberry Wilson out of wedlock. We do not know her father's name which had to be a Newton, we believe. Our family was in Grayson County, Kentucky. Do you have any information? Joan Flanagan [email protected] Thank you for your response. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, July 18, 2000 11:02 PM Subject: Re: Peter Newton > Dear Barbara, > Peter Newton settled near Harrodsburg, Ky. from a land grant in 1790. > My ancestors were from Ky. and Indiana. I will soon be posting info that came from an 1800's obit. that was saved by family regarding the life and death of James M. Newton born in Chautauqua County, NY - prominent citizen of Dansville, NY - his 1 son, Wiley B. Newton was my great grandfather - I will post as soon as I receive my copies of this info in the mail. Thankfully, my grandmother was a family scrapbook keeper, and much info that no one had previously known on both her family and her husband's family is now known. (Thanks Grandma!) Hopefully, I can now reach other relatives. STAY TUNED! Cindy
Dear Barbara, Peter Newton settled near Harrodsburg, Ky. from a land grant in 1790. My ancestors were from Ky. and Indiana. I don't know of any from N.C. Thanks, John
