    2. Hello Barbara, Geralene has a lot of information on the Newtons and has found my connection as well. My line is through Ebenezer's. I can't find the folder with the "in between" info in it right now, but I have a John McCall Newton, married to a Jennie "Arrowood" or some variation of that name, about 1816. According to one who has seen it, it is unclear on the census page. (I am awaiting other info right now, which will hopefully tell me whether this is Jennie's correct name. Does anybody out there know?) They are my g-g-g-g-grandparents. My line continues with Benjamin B. Newton (married to Millie Norman), their daughter Susan Ann Newton (married to William Bumgardner), son, John Bumgardner (married to Candis Catherine Handcock) and my great grandmother, Ola Lee Bumgardner (married to Calvin S. Falls). FYI-I also have a second cousin married to a Carswell up there in King's Mountain. Guess we're probably related somewhere, huh? Laura Champion Paulk Orlando, FL researching Falls, Bumgardner, Newton, Pruitt, Goforth, Jerrill, etc., etc.!!

    2. My ggfather and ggmother was Captain John and Jemina Newton from Cleveland, County, N.C.. My gmother was Mary Jane Newton Hastings born 1876, married John Hastings, and they lived in Cleveland County, N.C.. They moved to Newton, N.C., Catawba County about 1930? This is all I have. I remember visiting some ladies with my gmother when I was very small. The names were Lindy or Lucinda, Amanda or Mandy, and Lucy. I do not know whether this was the Newton family or the Hastings. The ladies lived in Shelby, N.C. (Cleveland County) and maybe one lived in Kings Mountain, N.C.. I remember that the one in Kings Mtn. was very old. One lady was married to a Canipe. Don't know which one, maybe Lucy. The Canipes lived in Shelby, N.C.. I will send you the names of my gparents children if you need them. Let me know. Thanks soooo much for your help. Barbara

    2. If you can give me more information on your line it would make it easier to connect. The name you gave I do not have. Do you know if any of your early ancestors in the 1700 and 1800's lived in Cleveland or Rutherford County NC? If so then more than likely you will be connected to Ebenezer born in 1725. Cleveland and Rutherford is where he made his home in 1776 and died there. His decendants scattered to quite a few states from there. Send me the information you have on your line and I will search to see if we connect. Waiting to hear from you. God Bless Joe & Geralene Newton

    1. Early NEWTONS in the Carolinas :Re: Long Shot
    2. Ray Revette
    3. Has anyone with NEWTON families in the Carolinas platted out the early NEWTONS to try and tie them into the NEWTONS we find starting in 1850? In 1850 I identify my earliest NEWTON in Horry Co., SC as David R. Newton born 1811. In 1800 in Kingston County SC there is one NEWTON listed on page 7 of SC census as: 7 NEWTON CONSTANTINE or CONSTANTINUS 10001-11111-0-0 In 1820 these NEWTONS show in Horry Co., SC (One is David) all are close together on page 138a James Newton...p138a.David Newton...p138a.William Newton...p138a. In 1840 these NEWTONS are listed in Horry Co., SC (One is my David R.) Newton,...David R./ 333/ 19 Newton,...James/ 346/ 10 Newton,...Wm. W./ 346/ 12 Does anyone know these NEWTONs, James and William? .... 2. Barbara, Other than land records, the letter from the mental hospital, Flora Ann's death certificate and what I posted, I have nothing else on John Frank and Flora Newton. I will gladly share what I do have and will send the dates and such on to you. 2. Hello Reiley, The birth date could be right, since one of his children was born in 1887. This could be something to work with. I would greatly appreciate any help on this because at this time I have no leads, dates, nothing, other than land records and a letter from the mental hospital on Flora Ann. Linda Newton their daughter was supposed to be half Indian, and I am thinking, is that why I cannot find them on the census?? Thank you for the information and help. Val James, TX << Hi, I noticed your query, and see a possible connection. I have a John F. Newton, son of John Oliver Newton and his wife Katherine Swofford Newton of Rutherford Co., NC, who was born about 1850 in NC. I have no other information on him, but have considerable info on his ancestors. My info comes from a book on the Newtons of this area. Does the birth year fit? Reiley Kidd Seattle >>
