Hi Greg, Thanks for the information. I will revise the files to reflect this information when I get the chance. I take it that you are the same Greg Newton as FTDNA#17715. Is that right? If so, then should I change your FTDNA contact e-mail to the one shown here? Should I change the e-mail showing for you at the Project webpage at RootsWeb to the one shown here? Hi Merle, Because you are the only one of "your" line tested, and you don't have any perfect matches yet, it won't really change your results, because the genetic distance to other groups didn't change. Calling all descendants of Edward Thomas NEWTON and Elizabeth MARTIN to a family gathering on October 2-3 at Alberton/Yarram, Gippsland, Victoria, Australia where Edward Thomas NEWTON lived between 1843 and his death in 1882. The Alberton cemetery contains many family graves. I now believe that Edward Thomas NEWTON was born on 28th November 1813 and baptised on 26th December 1813 at St George in the East, Tower Hamlets, County of Middlesex (London) in England. His parents were Thomas Edward and Sarah NEWTON. Edward Thomas Newton came to Tasmania in the early 1830s before coming to Victoria where he was living at Melbourne in 1837 to 1843. He moved to Alberton in the South Gippsland district of Victoria in 1843, where he died in 1882. To see more about this family check out my website "John Howe's Genealogy" http://mc2.vicnet.net.au/home/jhgen/web/index.html Planned activities for the weekend include a display of the Family Bible, family tree information and photos, at the function room in the Yarram library; a combined picnic and photo; a tour [maybe self-guided] of places around the district where family lived at Alberton, Alberton West (Devon), Binginwarri etc., plus visits to Alberton cemetery and Port Albert Maritime Museum. There may be a few costs related to setting this up and if families would like to donate $10 that would be appreciated (cheques, postal notes or direct transfer to J. Newton BSB 063 502 00294495 clearly marked for Newton reunion). Any extra money could go towards grave marking or maintenance at the Alberton cemetery (The Martin family have very recently constructed a cairn with a grave remains embedded.) Some preliminary indication of intention to attend and /or set up a display would be appreciated by 30 June 2010. We would also appreciate it if you could pass this message on to other relations who may be interested and will not have heard from us, and to provide an email address if you have one. Please give an initial indication of your intention to attend with John Howe jbh@bordernet.com.au Regards John Howe great great grandson of Edward Thomas NEWTON
Gregg good to see the included info. I wish I could afford to be included ! Still you never know. I can go back to maternal tree(Howard)of 1763 in Runcorn, Cheshire. Parental side to 1813, Stretton, Cheshire. It is parish records holding me back to the next branch. Thank you for all of the attentions us Newton's get on your website. Regards Peter P Newton, 1932
Hi List, Reporting inclusion of a DNA participant claiming descent from William Newton of Yorkshire, circa late 1700s. Area generally Fylingdales for generations. This person matches the existing Node "N" on the first 12 markers, but not all of markers 13-25, thus the existing Node "N" participant is now "N1", and the new one is "N2". The match on the first 12 markers is probably coincidental, since markers 13-25 are not all that close. Project main page here: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~gbonner/newtondna/ It is good to get samples from across the pond.... Yesterday, I wrote that: I found, on the 1830 Federal Census of Halifax Co., VA that William NEWTON had a son (age 5 & under 10) and two little girls under age 5. On the 1840 Census, I found the same family, but one of those daughters is no longer with us which says to me that she died under age 14. I do not know her name, nor the name of the one who lived. What I've found since: By the 1850 Census, the same family is shown with the son, Henry James at age 25 still living in the parental home. The second unnamed daughter is no longer in the home, but the other four named daughters are: Julia, Jane, Mary, and Lucy. This means that the remaining unnamed daughter either died OR is married. I believe she married someone named "MOORE." Why? On the 1880 Federal Census, I found the four named daughters (all spinsters) Julia, Jane, Mary, and Lucy, all living together (probably in the same house their parents, William and Jane Farrar NEWTON lived in when they were alive). Along with them are a nephew (William W. MOORE age 10) and a niece (Ellen MOORE age 8). Does anyone have a "Mrs." Moore who died leaving two of her young children orphaned before 1880? Yes. There was a physician mentioned, but it was unclear if he actually lived in VA or if he was a relative. Since that was not the focus of my research, I wasn't paying too much attention. You might want to go to the USgenweb Norfolk Co., VA site. There's a lot of info on that site. Judy jryden@charter.net Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass.... I've "rescued" an old photograph of Louise NEWTON of Brooklyn, Pennsylvania which was taken at the Bailey & McCausland Normal School Studio in Mansfield, PA. The photograph was likely taken in the 1890's as other photographs recovered in the same group include reference to the "Class of 1896". Louise appears to be in her teens or 20's at the time the photograph was taken. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Louise and her family: Ella Louise NEWTON b. 15 Aug 1876 in Brooklyn, PA to parents James M. NEWTON (b. 1822 in Groton, CT) and Eveline SLAUSON. The couple had 4 children including, Dora; Fanny; Edward W.; and Louise NEWTON all born in Brooklyn, PA between 1858 and 1875. Ella Louise married Frank William GORHAM (b. 21 Jul 1878 in Orwell Township, PA) on 30 Nov 1905 in PA and together they had a daughter Ruth GORHAM b. 16 Dec 1911 in Warren, PA.
