Dear Newton searchers, I know this is from way out in left field, but may lead somewhere. My family told a story about a connection to Napoleon some said through Empress Josephine, hence my grandmothers maiden name, Josephine Newton (1870-1955). I never put much stock in these musings. However, I just came across the birth record for my great grandmothers nephew, Charles Newton (1912-1994). it listed his father (my great-grandmother's younger brother) as Samuel Eugene Napoleon Bonaparte Newton. Truly weird! Any thoughts? Patricia
Hummmm... It is possible, but I'm always skeptical until I see documentary proof. Gordon and I believe you are the son of Wesley and Emily Newton, both deceased. I am 66 years old and am a professor of Biomedical Sciences at Missouri State University in Springfield, MO. As a family historian, I have discovered a possible family connection to your grandfather, John Newton, born Jan 1865 in Vermont. Would you be willing to talk with me about your knowledge and memories of your grandfather, John? Please be assured that I do not want to be intrusive. My family roots are very important to me. I only wish to confirm family history connections to your grandfather, John Newton. This information would serve to fill in missing pieces of my own Newton family history. I am including a stamped self-addressed envelope so that you may respond easily. You may also call me if that is more convenient. I was able to obtain your phone listing from another Newton family member, but I have hesitated calling you without you having an understanding of my reasons for calling. My day and evening phone numbers are listed below. Some information or memories that you may have is important to me. I have a Spring Break from my teaching duties during the week of March 19th and I would be willing to drive from Springfield, MO to DeKalb to meet with you for an hour or two to share our common family roots over some coffee. Also, if you have a family historian in your branch of the Newton family, please have him or her contact me by mail, phone, or email at jomogo@mchsi.com or AlbertGordon@missouristate.edu Thank you so much for your willingness to help a cousin. Our proud common Newton family history in the United States traces back to Richard Newton (born about 1602) who was one of the early settlers from Suffolk County, England to this country. Reporting results for participant who claims as ancestor one Charlie Newton (1860-1940) who married Carrie Harell, and died in Baker County, Georgia. There are reasons to believe that this group of Newtons will find its DNA origins in the family surnamed THOMAS. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~gbonner/newtondna/ The new sample is the only one of its type so far, and is now designated "Type '34'" Newton DNA. Hi Folks, There are 85 members of the DNA Project at FTDNA. Of those 85, all but one have returned their kits to be analyzed. The Project homepage shows the results of 73 tests, with a total number of 32 different DNA types (as measured by perfect matches on the first 12 Y-chromosome markers). Some of these are FTDNA samples, and some are from other labs. Only 2 have not signed the release consent form. Only 5 have results, but have yet to authorize me to publish their identity on the webpage. More information at the Project's webpage, here: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~gbonner/newtondna/ I hope that folks who do not have their Newton paternal line represented at the project will endeavor to do so. Hi folks I am trying to find out information about the following family, who are related to my family: I am trying to locate John and Phyllis Newton who emigrated from England to Vancouver in the 1920'. The Salvation Army helped them find a home in Stanley Park and employment in the fruit growing district of Penticton Valley. They both then became members of the Salvation Army. They had 3 sons, Rodney, Godfrey and Phillip. Rodney and Godfrey became Salvation Army Officers tho I am not sure if any of them had children. Enquiries have been made with the Salvation Army with the following results: "The only records which we have been able to find in our archives are for Godfrey, Whinfrey Newton whose parents were Mr. and Mrs. John Newton who lived at 1370 East 36th Ave. Vancouver B.C. in 1958. Godfrey became a Salvation Army officer in 1959 and his last appointment prior to resigning was as a missionary to Zambia. He was married to Beth Mae Edwards and they had two children, David Gerald born 18.05.54 and Lynne Patricia born 28.05 60. His last known address was Reverend Godfrey Newton, 10475 Oakgate Street, Surrey, BC V4N 1W7 This is the extent of our information relative to your enquiry. Sorry we could not have been more helpful." If anybody has any information on them or what happened to them it would be greatfully received. Regards Tony Fuller & Tanya Avetoomyan
I have just received word from Bob Newton that there is another big function at Yarram the weekend of our reunion (2 & 3 October 2010) and that people should book accommodation as soon as possible. John Howe jbh@bordernet.com.au Dear descendant of Edward Thomas Newton and Elizabeth Martin, The October 2-3 date for the Newton Family reunion is now drawing near and it may be wise to book accommodation. I have confirmation from about 40 people, but it would be handy for others to confirm attendance with John Howe or myself to aid in the preparation of name tags and family tree displays. The weekend is mostly unstructured, allowing time to look around the Alberton cemetery where some graves will be marked, to visit sites of interest marked on a map of the area and to join in self-organised smaller family groups for a Saturday evening meal and for Sunday brunch. On Saturday morning and early afternoon there is an opportunity to gather and look at the Family Bible of Edward Thomas Newton the second and at other family tree information in the Pelican Room of the Shire of Wellington Yarram library. We hope everyone will be able to attend a joint picnic in the adjacent Yarram Park from midday on, Saturday. Programme Saturday 9am Those with displays meet to set up at Pelican Room, library, rear of Shire Offices, 156 Grant St, Yarram. Turn in from Main St at DSE building. Parking at rear or front. 10am Drop in to view Family Bible and displays, Pelican Room. Tea and coffee facilities.
