Hi Betty. Giles Newton didn't have a David R. Newton and I don't show one in my database for that time period. Giles had two sons, Younger and James. He had several daughters. All moved into Marlboro County, SC and married there and in NC. Jim
Do you know if he had a descendent named David R. NEWTON b. 1811 in SC? bp ----- Original Message ----- From: Newton <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, August 03, 1999 9:12 AM Subject: (no subject) > Hi All. > > Thanks to everyone for the information on Henry Newton > of Essex County, VA. > > I'm researching GILES NEWTON who is listed in some > of the old Caroline County court order books. Jim Newton; I am researching the Newton's from Kentucky and wonder if you have any information that might help me go further back. Here is the family line : I am Betty Joan Floerke Flanagan (daughter of Vonnie Decker Floerke) Her father and mother are: William Lewis Decker and Iva Green Newton Iva's mother and father are: James (C?) Newton b: Sep 22, 1860 d: Nov 4, 1930 in Grayson County, Kentucky and Eliza Jane Wilson Newton b: Apr 20, 1868 and d: Jul 14, 1921 James father was: "Billy Cook" and his mother was Sally Newton b: 1830 (Note they were not married so James took the name of Newton) Sally's father and mother were: Samuel C. Newton and ??? Samuel C. Newton's father and mother were: Brumsberry Wilson b: 1770's and ???Newton (Note: they were not marrried) Brumsberry Wilson's father was James Wilson b:1742 I would like to trace the unknown Newton mother of Samuel C. Newton back. If anyone has any information please contact me [email protected] You will notice I am of the Decker's and Wilson's and Newton's from Grayson County, Kentucky. Jim, are you from that area? I know there are still Newton's in Leitchfield, Kentucky. I am in Indiana and planning to go to Frankfort, Kentucky next year to the state capital to do some searching. I have all the Decker back to 1600's. I have the Wilson's back to 1742. Thank you in advance for the information. -----Original Message----- From: Newton <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Friday, August 06, 1999 12:02 PM Subject: Re: AMELIA/PAMELIA NEWTON >Hi Dorothy. > >The only Pamelia Newton that I have in my line was >born in 1847. > >Some of the Newtons did move into Ohio and Indiana >but I haven't been able to trace them as yet. > >I have the same trouble tracing the women side of the >family. Hi Dorothy. The only Pamelia Newton that I have in my line was born in 1847. Some of the Newtons did move into Ohio and Indiana but I haven't been able to trace them as yet. I have the same trouble tracing the women side of the family. It seems they didn't make enough or any records of them back then. There are others searching for Pamelia Newton on the GenForum. No doubt you've seen these but in case you haven't, just search for Pamelia at the bottom of the Newton page. Sorry I don't have any other info. Jim Newton
Does anybody have any Cecil Judson Newtons or Paul Cecil Newton's in there line? I don't know very much so I can't give to much info. sorry Just wondering
Hi Jim, Have you come across a NEWTON by the name of PAMELIA or AMELIA. She was b ca 1769 to a THOMAS OR HENRY NEWTON. she d 20 Mar 1856. She m 12 May 1789 THOMAS HICKS IV (1760-1817). Both THOMAS & PAMELIA were born in Dor. Co, MD. They d in OHIO and are buried in the WHITE CEMETERY, McDonough Co, IL. Their dau, MARY HICKS, m THOMAS WHITE, of Dor, MD. THOMAS' uncle was the JUDGE WHITE who kept the REV FRANCIS ASBURY in his home for two years, to protect him from the British. THOMAS & PAMELIA NEWTON HICKS are my 4 great grandparents. Several descs have WILLIS for 1st or 2nd given name, so feel I must be shaking the right tree. SMALL & DOWNES & NOBLE & WOOLFORD & DENWOOD are other names associated with these families. Hope you'll keep me in mind, should you find a father for PAMELIA. Dorothy Hargrave Phillips [email protected]
Dear Jim, I would be interested in any information on the Newtons you have traced to Illinois. I have so far been unsuccessful in tracing my Newton roots beyond my grandfather. Grandfather was George Burton Newton, born Jan. 31, 1880 in Champaign Illinois. His father (according to my records) was Rasmus Newton. George's mother was Martha Isabel Larson. If you have seen any information on either grandfather George, or his father, please e-mail me at the address below. It would be greatly appreciated. Linda M. Hi Steve. I believe that I traced Peter Newton from Caroline County, VA to KY and some of his family on to IN, OH, or IL. I think this is the same Peter Newton. I do believe he was an Uncle by the dates. I have heard through family legends (from Bobby Boyett) that Giles's parents were killed by Indians and he and a sister survived because they hid or were hidden in a hay stack. There is further speculation that the children were taken in by the Samuels family. This might explain why the family spread out in many different directions although that was common in those times anyway. It seems that the Newton's settled in newly formed counties all the way into the middle and late 1800's. They just loved the land give-aways. Another reason they moved a lot. There is also records in the Giles Newton line that "they were from the New England family of that name." If that is true and it is also true that Henry Newton (1654) is the same Henry Newton born in New England in 1654, and Giles is from the Henry Newton line, it would support that statement. There is also a Reuben, Mary, and John Newton noted in the Caroline County records. It is also possible that there are two Giles Newtons in Caroline County by the court order books dates. Sorting all that out and getting a connection is going to be difficult if not impossible. On top of all that there are records of a Giles Newton Samuels in Caroline County. The Newtons and the Samuels seem to be intertwined somehow. Thanks for the notes. Jim Newton -------------- "Steven W. Henzel" wrote: > Jim, > > Keep me posted if you can make the connection. I don't have information that connects to this family for certain; however, I do have the names Edward, Frances, Francis and William in a family of NEWTONs in SC. David NEWTON b. 1811 in SC married Lydia Elizabeth JOINER. There children were: Lenore Newton b. 1859 (named after Elizabeth's sister) William Preston Newton b. July 01, 1860 David B. Newton b. 1862 Mary [Molly] Newton b. 1866 Source: Horry County, SC 1860 Census William Preston NEWTON married Frances Ann HEWITT (this could be where the Frances comes in) and they had children named Edward, William and Frances. Do you think that David R. NEWTON might be from the NEWTONs in DE? Any help would be appreciated. bp ----- Original Message ----- From: Samco Forestry <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, August 04, 1999 5:05 AM Subject: Edward Newton > Frances Newton, daughter of Edward and Frances (Willis) Newton married Henry > Cannon of Sussex Co. Frances Newton, daughter of Edward and Frances (Willis) Newton married Henry Cannon of Sussex Co. DE sometime after 1729. Frances (Willis) Newton, mother of Francis (Newton)Cannon, was born Nov 7, 1688. Edward Newton's, son of Edward Newton, will was probated in June 1730. Edward Newton Sr. is believed to have married Martha (?). If anyone has further information of this Newton family, especially Martha (?), it would be greatly appreciated. Kathy
Jim, Keep me posted if you can make the connection. I'm descended from Peter Newton, also of Caroline County. I don't know what the exact relationship is to Giles (father? son? brother? uncle?), but just making the link from Henry to anyone in Caroline County will be real progress. I am still seeking any Newtons of British or Dutch origins who were Jewish. Possible locations in America where these Newtons migrated are Philadelphia, upstate New York and New Orleans - all prior to 1835. Westward migration of some of the descendents travelled to California as early as 1846. To this point, I can trace American presence to the parents Henry Newton and Elizabeth Aarons, living in London before 1798. In actuality, Henry was a Nathan. On the will of son, Louis Henry Newton b. 1798 London d. 1840 New Orleans, parents are referred to as Henry Newton and Elizabeth Adams. To further complicate this research, siblings of Louis Henry Newton often used the surname Nathan. The case if muddied by the fact that Louis Henry Newton was not buried in a Jewish cemetery. One sister married a fairly well known Jewish leader of New York/New Orleans. One brother retained the Nathan surname and nothing is known of him, save that his widow, Elizabeth, died in New Orleans in 1838 and was buried in a Protestant cemetery. Another sister married a French Canadian Catholic and died in New Orleans in 1839. Connected surnames: Aarons, Lamm, Bellow (ne de Hamel), Gunst, Hoffman, Loyn (aka Lyons) Known professions: Diamond cutting, goldsmithing, watchmaking, mercantile, shipping (including ownership of clipper ships)
