    3. Hi, Judy! My maternal grandmother was Ettamae's sister, Mary Aileen. I've run into the same brick wall at Robert Henry Newton. I can't find either of his parents. Please let me know if you have any additional information. Thank you, and happy hunting!

    3. Hi Merle, Yes, that's right. Sorry for leaving your DNA type out of that list. As many of you will know, the DNA Project website (aside from the FTDNA pages) is hosted by FreePages, which is part of Ancestry. The website was taken offline by Ancestry for a long time. Now it is back! So I have been "out of practice" in this sort of thing for a while. 3. Dear Gregg, Thank you SO MUCH for your continued interest in the Newton yDNA project! I appreciate your letting me know this information. I can't wait to have time to get back to Newton Research....for the past 22 months, I have been serving as the United Daughters of the Confederacy GA Division Assistant Registrar and have spent just about every minute researching about 500 OTHER people's Southern ancestry! Just a few more weeks and I will have time to do MY OWN research, again! Sincerely, Janice Newton Thurmond, Marietta, GA, sister of Raymond Craig Newton of San Diego. 3. Hi Folks, I was checking my dad's Newton autosomal DNA matches, and I finally got a triangulated Newton segment. When I checked the ancestry claimed by the descendants, their Newton descent was from those Newtons of Duplin and Chatham Counties, North Carolina. I don't know if the segment triangulates from the matches perspectives or not. While I suppose it could be the case that they have this Newton descent coincidentally, it would be rare to see it triangulate on my side within the Newton part of my tree, because that is so many generations back for my dad. Thus, I encourage those Newtons who descend from Duplin/Chatham to consider the possibility that their line leads to the Newtons of Westmoreland, where very early one John Newton had 4 wives and had "one English borne son" by each of the first three. He was the son of Thomas Newton 'of Camblesforth' near Carlton, Yorkshire. The Y-chromosome profile of the Westmorelands has not been proved yet, but the Duplin/Chatham types are "M", "O", and "W" in the project data. I think many had traced these lines to Newton of Marlboro/Sudbury, but the Y-DNA data killed that notion comprehensively. It would be nice to get a couple of bona fide Westmorelands to Y-DNA test to be sure. Best, Gregg

    3. Nor is this my Newton family, who left New Hanover Co., NC in 1835, settled in South Georgia, where they continued to flourish and multiple. Though I will not benefit from this, I do appreciate your desire to return the card to the proper family and your research efforts. Were everyone so conscientious, what a great world this would be! I descend from John Newton (1750-1799, South Carolina) and his son Larkin Newton (1794, S.C. - 1858, Ellis Co., TX), who went to TN then to Arkansas after War of 1812, then to southwestern Missouri and finally to Ellis Co., TX about 1847. 3. I've "rescued" an old funeral card including a photograph of Orleana NEWTON who was born 5 May 1857 and died 17 Feb 1924. Based on limited information I was able to locate the following information regarding Orleana and her family: E. Orlena or Orlina E. BECK was b. 5 May 1857 in Marshall, TN to parents Marcella or Marcellus Q. BECK (1836-1870) and Mary or Sarah Jane PATTERSON (1838-1906). Orlena was one of 7 children born to this couple including, Orlina; William Henry James or James W.; Mary "Mollie" Jane; Shilo or Sheal or Shered W.; and Savannah E. 3. What is it with these disappearing Newtons? My Robert Henry was born (or perhaps hatched) by "no man or woman" in 1818 North Carolina. I cannot find any parents after searching every Newton in VA and NC. I even had a male Newton cousin give his DNA to the Newton DNA project and found a link, but found NO NEWTON within 5 generations that could be my Robert Henry's father. Grrrr... 3. Does anyone have record of the marriage of John Newton and Patience Baldwin? Or the birth of a daughter Comfort 1764-1841 and her marriage in or near Cambridge NY to William Nicholson 1757-1834? The obituary of my great great great grandmother Nancy Nicholson says she was born at Cambridge New York in 1785. I believe her to be the daughter of Comfort Newton and William Nicholson. I would pay $100 US for proof of this – the record of her baptism, or copy of a will of William NIcholson or Comfort Newton Nicholson, or the obituary of either of them, in which their daughter Nancy McKim is named.

    3. Hi Rose and Shelley This Sherwood Newton is a very distant cousin of mine (third cousin twice removed). His Newton lineage extends though his parents, Otis Louis and Grace (Thompson) NEWTON; his grand parents, Sir Isaac and Louisa Pigg (Garner) NEWTON; his great grand parents, Phineas and Comfort Ann (Lewis) NEWTON, brother of my third great grand father; his second great grand parents, John (Jr) and Nancy (Glover) NEWTON, who was one of the sons of John NEWTON Sr who died in Cumberland County Virgina ca 1795. I have had contact through the years with several descendants of Phineas that might be interested in the "Baby Book" and maybe the above lineage will "make the connection" for them. -- Darwin Newton Cambridge KS
