    1. [NEWITT] Newitt's of South Australia
    2. Alan Eade
    3. Hello Yvonne I had a look at http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=af/search_AF .asp&clear_form=true and discovered a part of your Newitt line of South Australia. The site records your James Newitt (b.c1845 England died 21 Sept 1897 SA) and his brother John (b.c1840 England died 29/4/1916 SA), and his father Thomas who was born about 1814 in England and died 23/4/1873 in SA. You mentioned James's parent's were Thomas and Mary, however my Thomas (born 1796) and Mary (born 1802) had a son James who was born in 1832 in Chatteris Cambridgeshire UK. Therefore that rules out this particular branch. Regards Alan

Her siblings Mary baptized 1823, Sarah 1825, Edward 1817 and her on the 1st of April 1821 are all given the same spelling for the surname. 3. Hello Sandflea I have no information on your family, but I would like to add my interest to the Newitt line which I am researching. I have been on this list for 11 months now and yours is the first posting which has been sent to this Newitt mail list. I hope this starts a few threads. 1. [NEWITT] Newitt Surname Mailing List
    2. Jana Black
    3. Hello all, You are receiving this post either because you subscribed to the NEWITT mailing list or because you posted an inquiry looking for NEWITT ancestors on the Rootsweb NEWITT bulletin board. I maintain both lists. Since this is such a small group, I took the liberty of subscribing everyone to the mailing list. If you do not wish to participate, please let me know and I will unsubscribe you immediately. The list is for the free exchange of information on the NEWITT surname worldwide. As I said recently, my own line is posted here: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~jmbhome/1newitt.html It is all form Bucks and Oxf. If you find a place on my charts where your line connects, I am always willing to add a link to your data from the common ancestor. I do this for free, for the love of family and will not ever sell it. On my charts, any underlined name links to another page of charts. I do not post information on the living and I stop the charts where a woman marries out of the surname. I am going to research the Free BMD listings and will post all the NEWITT listings so we can get an idea of where the surname clustered. I will post the results to the website and let you all know when it is "up." Meanwhile, let's do a roll call and share what we know. Try to include full names, date of birth, place of birth, siblings, parents, migration path, etc. Also, list where you are so we can get an idea of where our surname lives today! For my line, I would use this string, for example: John b. 1790 OXF m. Mary Howell > Thomas b. 1748/9 OXF m. Sarah Aynsley > Joseph b. 1787 OXF m. Martha Atkins > Thomas b. ~1811 OXF m. Susannah Tilley > Thomas b. 1837 OXF m. Hannah Radbone > Martha b. 1867 OXF m. Geo. Colsell Granted, this is a skeletal representation of the information I actually have, however, it is enough for someone else to decide if they want to look further and share notes.... Good luck to us all! Luckily families are, after all, finite, so eventually we ought to be able to sort them out <G> Jana Black San Francisco Bay Area, CA, USA

    1. Newitt - Drogheda, Ireland
    2. Hi I was pleased to receive some postings from the Newitt List and thought I would add my interest. My great grandmother Mary Kate Newitt was born in Drogheda, Ireland in 1866. She was the daughter of Philip and Mary Newitt (nee White). She had a a brother John who was born in Drogheda in 1869. Their father Philip died and her mother married again to a Mr Albert? Steel and by 1881 they were living in Dorset, England. Does anyone else connections with the name Newitt in Ireland? Regards Maureen Bowler Caerphilly, South Wales <Mmbowler1@aol.com>

    3. Hi everyone, I am your list manager. I began this list knowing it would be small several years ago and I would love to see it get going! The Newitts were Grama's favorite cousins - good people! My grandmother's mother was Martha Newitt from OXF - here is the documentation: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~jmbhome/1newitt.html To be honest, I have only researched my own line, but I am certainly willing to help you out by posting your lines as well so you can all look at what you each have.... I also have Rootsweb Bulletin Boards up for the surname, but, as you say, the "traffic" has been light :) http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=surnames.newitt Take a look at what we have, and add to it! Eventually it should work - most of what I have came from "cousins" willing to do look ups in England... I am in the SF Bay Area, CA, USA... Good luck to us ALL! 1. William Newitt of Surry Co., VA
    2. Hi, I just found out about this list, and I am excited. I have just spent several months on my William Newitt who first appeared in Surry Co. VA in 1668 on a list of tithables of Southwarke Parish with John Orchard. I feel William and John Orchard are somehow related. William Newitt married Elizabeth Jones, daughter of Ralph and Elizabeth Jones, c. 1672. They had two daughters, Frances and Elizabeth. Frances married Edward Drew and Elizabeth, Thomas Edwards and then, William Price, I think. I would like to learn more about Elizabeth's line and her Edwards children, and of course any Price children she may have had. I am descended from Frances Newitt and Edward Drew's son Newitt Drew. 3. Hi All, I'm very pleased that this has started up - now maybe I'll find out who my lot were. I have a Thomas NEWITT born abt 1814 in England with a wife called Mary Ann. They came to Sth Aussie pre 1863 [nothing on shipping] Sons: John born 25 Feb 1841 London James bc 1845 ? The only reason I know John's birth date is that he gained his captain's papers while in Aussie - & it gave his birth date & place - nothing on St Cath's that match for the birth nor for a marriage :(( I've looked under various spellings. They were educated & the father & other son, James, were Ironmongers. Any suggestions or ideas would be of great assistance. Bonnie [Yvonne] Bean The Burp, Queensland, Australia
