    3. The main reason most of them renamed a new child was the naming customs back then. If say their first son was named William for the grandfather and the child died in infancy they would name the next boy child for the father. Also applies for girls. Most also liked the names. My mother named her first son for the grandfather, the second son for the other grandfathers, me for her sister, and she told everyone when my sister was born she finally got to pick her own name for her. A lot of good that did. When my sister became an adult she changed her first name.
