    3. Thank you Phyllis. This is something that I have done and I was more or less asking if it was done by others also. It is wonderful to remember these little items I lived in Illinois from 1935 to 1940 when we moved back to Washington state (and where I am still) but I always wanted to "go back" and in 1990 it was finally a realized trip. There were no busses, trains, etc from Effingham where I was staying to Stewardson where I had lived, and then only one taxi which I took and asked if he could pick me up that evening around 6 which would give me about 8 hours to roam this little town of 600+ people and according to my late grandmother we were all related in one way or another. I got out of the cab, in front of a little store (which I did not remember at all) but next to the park where I had played for those early years of my childhood. Across the street from the park was where my grandparents had lived but the house did not look the same as I had remembered. But as I looked down the street, and saw the house where I had lived for those few "younger" years ~ what did I see ~ ME, riding my big tricycle around the sidewalk that circled the left side of the house. I had to go down there. Oh the memories that flooded through me. I saw the living room where my sister was born, the back bedroom where my brother was born (and this brought back the memories of the Dr dropping a pair of scissors on my baby brother's head and to this day he has a scar there) and all the other things that had been locked up came pouring out. I was 6 years old when we left there and I have gone back twice since. In 1992 I took one of my 15 year old grandson's with me. He saw farms, I mean farms, for the first time in his life. He traipsed through cemeteries, courthouses, libraries, etc. What a time we had. Well, reckon this is enough of my reminiscing and had better get back to today <grin>. Christmas is coming!!
