GEDCOM files are a generic database format for genealogy files. The GEDCOM standard was developed so that people can trade files back and forth no matter what genealogy software program they use. So, if you use FTM and I use Generations, we can first convert our files to GEDCOM, then swap them (on disk or via e-mail), then import them into FTM and Generations to read them. What I'm telling you is that FTM is reading your cousin's GEDCOM, just as it is supposed to do. This doesn't effect your own FTM family history database. It should open as a separate file.
