>From John Rathbone at jrathbon@dreamscape.com G'Day, Jim and All! Thank you, Jim, for stating my own feelings so nicely. The story could have happened, but -- in all likelihood -- probably did not. Who knows? And, as a story to entertain most of us, who really cares? But it certainly is a message of hope which is most welcome around this time of year, no? I, for one, enjoyed the tale - whether "tall" or not! And, yes, I will try to remember it to tell my grandchildren because, like most folk tales, there is a good point to be made. Remember, those were hard times. Fortunate, indeed, was the infant who lived to die of old age -- look at all the gravestones standing in mute testimony across our land. And what was "old age" then? Somewhere around 45 years? Not all deaths were due to murder, but many times natural disasters and disease took their toll, too. "But, again, that's just one man's opinion..." -----Original Message----- From: allenjm@bellsouth.net <allenjm@bellsouth.net> To: NEWGEN-L@rootsweb.com <NEWGEN-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Tuesday, December 12, 2000 10:11 AM Subject: [NEWGEN] The Story and Ancient Brit Comments >I took the story to be an interesting bit of folklore appropriate for >the time of the year with a message of love and kindness that should be >shared.
