    3. Gloria. All Gedcoms open in a genealogy program. In your case it is FTM. There is no way to really read a Gedcom without a program. Gedcom is a universal data base that all genealogy programs can read. It is the standard in genealogy and is interchangeable. In your case it is opening as a new file in your FTM. It is not going into your main data base. That way you can look it over before you decide if or not you want to merge it with your base. Just remember that FTM opens the last file viewed, so you have to go to file, open, and then select your main file to get back into it.
