    3. Mary, I have taken old photos to our local printer(the kind that does letter heads, business cards invitations. It cost me $1.00 a page and will enlarge it if I want. My father-In-law gave me a box full of tiny pictures, I had them done in a 5 x 7 and it was amazing to see how the features came out so much more clearer. And I didn't have to wait to get them back. Gloria ----- Original Message ----- : Hi : : Does anyone know which way is best economically to get copies of old : pictures? : : I've heard places like Walgreens can make copies on site and also one can : have a photographer make copies. I have some I'm going to need to make more : than one copy of. Most are the hard paper type photos. : I however don't want to pay a fortune for the copies either. : : Anyone with any experience or advise on this? : : Sincerely, : Mary

    1. Re: [NEWGEN] downloaded files
    2. I went to the following GROS page and downloaded one of the files. Turns out that the "WK1" file extension is a Microsoft Excel or Lotus 123 spreadsheet file. You'll need that or similar software that can open a "WK1" file. MS Word can also open a "WK1" spreadsheet file, but you'll need to ensure you load the text converters for it. The converters are on the MS Word installation disk, but aren't installed unless you specify it during setup. The file I downloaded was http://wood.ccta.gov.uk/grosweb/grosweb.nsf/pages/files/$file/98t3_7.wk1 All of the files I ran across had that extension. Woody Woodworth ~~~~~~~~<>~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Shegrim@aol.com writes: > I downloaded two files from the GROS (General Registrars Office) in > Scotland. 1. [NEWGEN] For the music lovers
    2. Dr. Bill
    3. I received the following which I thought you might like to read and decided to reply in kind. I have removed the data which would identify the sender because I don't know if that person would want it published. .Sent: Saturday, September 16, 2000 7:51 PM : Dear Dr. Bill, : If I could be with you one hour tonight we would probably get misty : remembering those cotton fields back home and how we used to go waltzing, : Matilda.(Did you know that's my pet name for you?) : Yes, you've come a long way from St. Louis. I wonder...is it true what : they say about Dixie?...and is there a lot of stormy weather there? : You know, if I didn't care I wouldn't tell you that I'm getting : sentimental over you and beg you...Ruby (thats my other pet name for you : :-D) don't take your love to town. : : My humble apologies...I couldn't resist. I'll go sit in the corner now. My Reply: I would much rather be Down On The Boondocks or even walking through Them Old Cotton Fields Back Home, than Waltzing Matilda. I find my self Getting Sentimental Over You, even Misty as I remember your trip. You Came A Long Way From St. Louis, and my plea is Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town. Like the Phantom Of The Opera, If I Didn't Care, I would not even ask "Is It True What They Say About Dixie" ( I apologize, I know you don't like that name your Mother gave you.) If I Could Be With You One Hour Tonight, I could explain that You Are My Everything and Blue Skies would replace this Stormy Weather. Bill

    1. [NEWGEN] 1700 Cosmetics
    2. Gloria Motter
    3. This was sent to Maggie Ohio list and I had to share it here. Cosmetics were commonly worn and a white skin tone was very desirable in the 1700s by women of fashion. Flour, white lead, orrisroot and cornstarch were common bases to produce the esthetic of a pure white face. The best cosmetics were in a fairly greasy base and stayed in place. Over this base a true red rouge was used to highlight cheekbones. Lip color and rouge were made from crushed cochineal beetles. Cochineal was an expensive imported commodity, country men substituted berry stains. Lampblack was used to highlight eyebrows and eye lashes, which were then groomed by fine combs. Beauty patches were small black patches often shipped like the suites of cards or fleur-de-lys. They were used on the face or on the body, originally to hide the scars or sores of various diseases, but later were simply fashionable. These interesting historical tidbits are from the new History Magazine

    2. Does anyone have WFT volume 24 tree #2862, and/or volume 10, tree #4578, who could look up Edington, Wade Hampton, for me? The lookup site I have doesn't seem to be the right one. Patricia
