Can someone tell me how to help my friend who composed the following email? Thanks. This is the third time I have sent this message--but when it gets to NEWGEN list, part of it is missing! I haven't a clue as to what is happening! Barbara I have somehow deleted the speaker icon from the taskbar and the volume control on my keyboard doesn't respond either. It's stuck on very loud and I can't do anything to correct it. Even the mute button doesn't work. What can I do? >>
How would I go about finding census info. in Illinois in the late 1860? I only have a name and a state. No county. Any advice would be appreciated. Sheryl

I wonder why , some of the family , will not tellyou anything about the past , don't they all know we have shelton in our clossets? This is nothing to be ashamed about , it is the way of life , there is no perfect person that lived onthis earth but one, and we all know who that is ....We have all did things we are not proud of , but ir sure would help us feel better if we could find out what in the past..Does any one agree with me???? My mother came to Australia via Belgium and New Zealand from Younderhaugh, Falkirk, Scotland. My Grandfather (John Simpson Buchan Roy) was a wine merchant and appears to have either owned or managed hotels in Belfast, and England along the Scot/England border. When ever I asked my mother why did g'father migrate to Aussie land she would only say that it was not her business, if her father wanted her to know he would have told her. She was about 10 years of age when she arrived in Australia. Once she told me a little story how her father went into a bank in Falkirk one day and the teller remarked that he had just missed his father by five minutes, at the time the story meant nothing to me until I decided I would try and trace my family tree. If my gr grandparents had separated at some stage then the chance meeting would have meant something, unfortunately my mother would not open up and she passed away last year age 83. Researching: Wilson Roy Buchan Nightingale Gallie Sim Harley I notice that this group is predominantly American and in my search I found my Great Grandmother was Isabel Gallie and she had a sister Agnes who married James Finlay in Toronto on 4 November 1868 and lived in Battle Creek Michigan raising 10 children. I have a few other American names but very little details so once I put all the names into some sort of order I will have to try the local LDS centre. Thanks for all the ideas about where and how to search for family members, Regards Steve Ayres Sunbury Australia. ==== NEWGEN Mailing List ==== THE GENEALOGIST NEVER TAKES WITHOUT SHARING. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Hi, Several people have given leads and names/places on this one. But each seems to end in a brick wall/not the one we're searching for! Many thanks for the leads...they were worth a shot! All we have is an 1870 Hardin County, Tn. census with his name and family on it: Uriah Allen 34 born in Al. a wagonmaker wife Nancy 22 born in Tn. children William age 10 born in Tn. John 8 born in Tn. Sallie 10 months born in Tn. in July his brother listed in same household John T. age 32 born in Al. a wagonmaker his wife Martha 26 born in Tn. their son David U. age 2 born in Tn. And a woman, Matilda, age 60 born in Va. Uriah W. (William) Allen was my great grandfather. My grandfather, Uriah Solomon Allen was born 1875 in Ms., so he isn't listed in this census of course. His sister Sallie is. The two boys, William and John were my grandfather's older half brothers. They all seem to have dropped in and off the face of the earth, all except for Nancy and Uriah Solomon... Any suggestions? Thanks, Kathy

I have to put this out here today, as it made such a profound impact on me yesterday. I guess ignorance is bliss. I always thought your final resting place was sacred. We put a 36 year old man to rest yesterday. MICHAEL WAYNE GADDY. He left 3 children one of which was a 10 month old son. It was the saddest thought to think if when he got old enough to understand, that Dustin wanted to go to his daddy's final resting place that it might not be there. Don and Greer FISCHBACH Don FISCHBACH was a Marine Corps buddy of my husbands, Greer was his wife. Their children, born ca 1962 and 1966 were Donny, Jeff, and Troy. They were from the Baltimore, Md area, but later moved to Arnold, Md. Several of us couples became very close, in order to survive at the N.O.T.S at China Lake, Calif, and visited back and forth for many years after discharge ca 1963. The last time we visited Don and Greer in Arnold, Md was about 1979. Their son Jeff had just been killed along with 2 of his friends at an intersection near their home, after eating at a pizza place, and Greer was having a very hard time. Don worked for the telephone company, and had siblings. Greer worked in an attorneys office, was an only child, her mother had recently passed away. They often went "to the shore", to a relatives cottage. and I know the son Donny married within the next couple of years. There is a FISCHBACK living on the same street in Arnold, they used to live on, he did not respond to the letter I sent to him. More then likely there were lawsuits, and probably a divorce. I found possibilities for the sons in the on-line phone books, but address's were not given, so I can't write to them. If you remember this accident, or knew Don and Greer, please help me find them again, because we miss them very much. Military friends are "forever"! Thank You for listening, Sherry Morel Shelts sshelts@absolute-net.com
Hi, here is more information and a list of those buried in the St. Louis, MO. Bridgeton Memorial Park that is being moved. Here is more information. Notice names listed. Feel free to send on. We have Pat Jones Smith, of St. Louis, to thank for posts. (See end.) Alexandra BRIDGETON MEMORIAL PARK, Bridgeton, Missouri This burying ground at 4616 Long Road was made into a memorial park in 1962. In 1959 several lawsuits were filed against the City for allowing the cemetery to deteriorate. Individual stones had already been removed "through error and misunderstanding" but members of the Bridgeton Historical Commission were able to learn the names of some who were buried there and a large monument was erected in 1963 which bears this inscription, "We honor the people buried here. They were part of this nation's adventure and their vision lighted the path we follow today." At the dedication ceremonies, Mrs. Anna Wilson gave a talk about African-American veterans who are buried here. Records indicate that the cemetery was integrated from its beginning. It was in use as late as 1954 and at least 100 people are buried in the two acres. On the bronze plaque of the monument are the following names: (alphabetized by secondary poster) Adams, Annie Adams, Benjamin Adams, George Adams, Lottie Alexander, Ben Alexander, George Alexander, Henry Alexander, Lucy Allen, Eugene Young, Mary Ann Black, Sam Bassett, Arthur Bivens, Febie Bivens, George Bivens, Lizzie Bivens, Millie Bivens, Rafe Bivens, Samuel Black, Cosley Black, Edward Black, Hiram Black, King Carter, Bell Cheeks, Lilly Clanton, Henry Dickson, Fred Duglas Jr., Joe Edwards, Auston Edwards Jr., Auston Edwards, Grace Edwards, Katie Galliger Family, The Grannison, Almiria Haggerty, Jack Hall, Creed Hall, Hillard Hall, Hiram Wadlington, Texas Hall HallJr., Creed Heidron Children, The Hodge, Lizzie Hodge, Steve HornFamily, The Jackson, Nasrus Johnson, Amy Johnson, George Johnson, Julia Johnson, Robert Johnson, Turner Knight, Mr. Lewis, Henry Lint, Hal Lint, Luvenia McClure Family, The Moore, Jessie Mumps, Enoch Phillips, Elio Phillips, Eliza Phillips, Ike Phillips, Tilly Phillips, Walter Pruitt, Bell Pueroa Family, The Riddle, Fred Robertson, James Rush, Will Scott, Baron Scott, Louise Scott, Lydia Smith, Laura Stanton, Roberta Stevenson, Lewis Steward, Fred Stocker, Henry Taylor, Joseph Thompson, Abe Thompson, Henry Thompson, Hiram Thompson, Jenny Tucker, Mamie Vonsray, Barney Walker, Edward Walker, Kit Walker, Lizzie Walker, Quiller Walker, Tommy White, Barbara White, John White, Noah White, Shibina William Dr., Berry Wilson, Alice Wilson, Ernest Wilson, George Woodson, Theodore Woolfolk, Baby Woolfolk, Hadley Wright, Gibson Wright, Hiram Wright, Mamie Young, Green Young, Skip This list was given to me by : The Missouri Historical Society P.O. The music has been changed, the NTT winner for last week posted and a whole bunch of good stuff downloaded for your listening pleasure. Again there are some numbers you probably won't know unless you were active in the '60s and the #3 Juke Box tune, believe it or not was both a Swing dance tune as well as a Twist tune. My most wanted is any and all of family Oleschak. Max Oleschak born in the Ukraine (Austrian Empire) immigrated to US with his sister. In 1929 he married my grandmother in Canada. He had a fake Canadian birth certificate and my mother was an adult before she learned he was not born in Canada. All Oleschaks in Canada are descended from him. There are about a half dozen Oleschaks in the US and some scattered around the world. The only reply I have so far is from an Oleschak in Sweden who is having some family history translated into English for me. Sheila wrote..... >>Actually Roy, this is the problem with Grandma Edith. By the time I was old enough to ask questions she had already passed away. My father, her son, having no interest whatever in genealogy, simply never asked about her past. I have no idea which city or town she came from. Rigth now I'm trying to find out where and when she and Grandpa were married. ( Dad doesn't know this either)<< I THINK I have found your grandmother on the 1881 British Census and National Index CDs (published by the LDS Church from British government census information). There were only two Edith Cockaynes born at about the right time in the whole of the UK, one In Lancashire and one in Derbyshire, Since you seem to be sure that your grandmother was born in Lancashire, then I suspect this must be her..... The small town of Glossop, BTW, though geographically in Derbyshire, is only a few miles outside Manchester. I gave up when I got to 600 and hadn't got past the B initial for the forename!. There would appear to be particular concentrations of them in Derbyshire and Bedfordshire. This is often a good way to work out where your ancestotrs came from - note places in which they appeared in numbers on the IGI. There seemed to be few in Lancashire but I did note the following entries..... However, you need to do more work before you can assume anything. As suggested in my previous message, I see no reason why you shouldn't now be able to find Edith's birth certificate. Go to a Mormon FHC and ask if they have the UK GRO indexes of births, marriages and deaths. Search them and see if you can find the right entry, then send off for the certificate. It takes a few weeks, I believe, I have never had to do it by post. Once you have your grandmother's birth certificate, it will show the name of her father (which should be Robert Cockayne) and name and maiden surname of her mother, so that will enable you to look for their marriage certificate, which in turn will give you the names of both their fathers and get you back another generation. You should be able to get back to somewhere in the 1840s via this method, then you turn to the earlier census returns of 1841, 1851, 1861 and 1871 once you have some more addresses. Again, many Mormon FHCs possess copies of the British censuses on film. Listers I am coming out of the shadows on this one for Dr. Bill. My most wanted is BURNS, Charles Herbert {no dates}. I would be taking a guess that his birth year would be around 1888 in and or around Cedar Falls, Waterloo, Black Hawk County, Iowa. This is because of a child that was born to him and his wife STONE, Margaret Josephine. This was out of wed lock and the birth year for her was 1902. Charles was also convicted of murder {talk about skeleton's} for killing his wife's father. He was 19 to 21 years of age at that time. Anyone that can be of assistance to me in this would be greatly appreciated. In advance let me say thanks to one and all that might help on this Most Wanted. Would also like to volunteer to do any lookups for Boone County, Iowa. I have many of there index's to include census, cemetery, marriage, death transcripts, probate, and naturalization on hand. If one is in need of a lookup PLEASE put in the subject line Boone County, Iowa lookup. As always let me say that I wish you all the best of days. Ed
