That's great...and so efficient !! A URL that you might want to link to is the Cumberland Presbyterian website at < http://www.cumberland.org/hfcpc/schools/CumbC.htm > One of my 3rd greatgrandfathers (Rev Carson Pate Reed) was a Cumberland Presbyterian minister. The Cumberland Presbyterian system was the first attempt by the Presbyterian Church to produce ministers in the Colonies. Prior to this, all Presbyterian ministers had to have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree from one of Scotland's Ancient Universities (they had 4, when England only had 2) This was one of the reasons the Scotch-Irish in general and the Presbyterians in particular had the highest literacy rate in the world at that time. This would come in handy during the American Revolution. But....to return to the topic at hand, the Presbyterians were losing out in the race to convert souls because the Baptists and others did not have stringent educational requirements for their preachers and were cranking them out at a very fast clip. Hence, many traditional Presbyterians were converting to Methodism or becoming Baptists because something was better than nothing one would suppose. I have another 3rd great grandfather who was a preacher with the Fishing Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Surry/Wilkes Co NC. Jeff Weaver has some great info on his New River site related to this church that even mentions him (Rev S.P.Smith). I'm sure Jeff would be happy for you to link to his site...he's a nice guy and has some great material for those who haven't been there. The URL is < http://www.ls.net/~newriver/nrv.htm > Be sure and scroll all the way down ...the New River Notes home page is a very long page and you'll miss all kinds of goodies if you don't. I have another goodie for you too.....Custom Timelines...great fun !! http://www.ourtimelines.com/create_tl_2.html Thanks again and have a great day............enjoy, malinda Cyndi Howells wrote: > At 12:23 PM 11/2/00 -0600, malinda jones wrote: > >Hi Cyndi.....do ya'll have any plans to create a link for Presbyterians ? > > > >malinda > > > > > > Malinda and all - > The first version is online now: > Cyndi's List - Presbyterian > http://www.CyndisList.com/presbyterian.htm > > Please let me know if you have a site that I should add to the list, > Cyndi > > ==== NEWGEN Mailing List ==== > ROOTSWEB.............R.I.P.
I had to pass this along. it has a very good site about infirmary/poorhouses and some records . Gloria We have just posted a photograph of the DARKE County Home on the OHIO page of The POORHOUSE STORY website. This is a clearinghouse for information about 19th century American Poorhouses at http://www.poorhousestory.com If you go to the homepage (link above) just click on POORHOUSES BY STATE, then on OTHER STATES and then click on OHIO on the table of states. There you will see a great deal of information already posted about poorhouses in other counties in OHIO.(If you have been to the site recently, you may need to click REFRESH on your browser to see the new material.) Hope you enjoy the site! Thanks, Linda Crannell (aka=The Poorhouse Lady)
Here is a site that has the census years on it for England,it may be some use. http://www.pro.gov.uk Sandra

So for a while now I have been sitting back and getting my bearings. I have begun my research on both sides of my family and have hit a few walls. I am looking for the father of Robert S. Dowell, b Dec. 1875 in MO, m. Leadia(Lealia?) in 1897 in Kentucky. Robert was in 1900 Census in ATchinson, County, MO. His parents are from Kentucky and that is all the information I have. My second most wanted is parents of Heriman(Herman?) Sherman of Utica, MO, b. 1866, m 1895(?) Emma Glendenning. ==================== Cheryl A Butler Dept. Diane: Nothing to fear about defragging at all. It does not remove files form your hard drive, it only moves them around on the platters so that all files are contiguous. Shirley - I have several links for privacy issues in two spots on Cyndi's List: Internet Stuff You Need To Know http://www.CyndisList.com/internet.htm Software & Computers http://www.CyndisList.com/software.htm Newer versions of genealogy software program are including the option to leave out "living" people. Check your software to see if it has this option. Otherwise, first you will always need to create a GEDCOM file (generally under File, Export to GEDCOM in most software programs under Windows). Once you have a GEDCOM file created, run it through a utility such as gedliving, GEDPrivy or GEDClean (see links on my site above). After you "clean" out the living people, import the GEDCOM file back *into* your genealogy software program and then generate the reports that you need. Good luck, Cyndi At 08:23 AM 11/2/00 -0800, you wrote: >I use Family Origins, which I don't think has the option to block >information on living persons when that information is exchanged with others >via a Gedcom. Choose: Programs Accessories System Tools Disk Defragmenter The first time through, click the "Settings" button and be sure both boxes are checked at the top and that the button for "each time you defrag" is checked at the bottom. Click OK. At the top of the Defrag window, you have a drop-down menu where you can choose which drive you want to defrag. In most cases it will by your C drive, but some people may have additional hard drives on their computers. Start the defrag, then get away from the computer, grab a cup of coffee and something chocolate. That is a requirement. <g> It may take a while for the defrag to run, so you might think about starting it when you go to bed at night. FYI -- what is disk defragmentation? Think of your hard disk as a pie or, better yet, as having a grid of squares. As data is added to your hard drive (it is merely a filing cabinet for your electronic data), it is placed into each of the squares on the grid. As you delete files or uninstall software some of the grids become empty, while some are overwritten with new data. Over time, the grids end up with a hodge-podge of data here and there, scattered all over your hard disk. Your computer has to keep track of which squares in the grid have which bits of data. The hodge-podge can make it harder for your computer to find the data it needs and slow your computer down. When you run the disk defrag utility, you help your computer organize the grids and get all that data neat and tidy again. Good luck, Cyndi P.S. At our house we run the disk defrag quarterly.

This was sent from another list, thought I would pass it on. A GREAT site to look for pictures of ancestors serving in Civil War. I just made a page for Connie at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~cribbs/connie1/ so that she could show her research online. I'd be glad to put a family tree page together for anyone who needs one for free. Let me know at cribbswh@tbi-set.org Let's share and promote free research online! Bill

Ellen PROBERT, my gggrandmother, born abt. 1848 in England to John PROBERT, a porter. September 15, 1877 she married my gggrandfather Edwin James BURCHELL in the Parish Church in the Parish of St. James, in the City & County of Bristol. She was his 2nd wife. John PROBERT was deceased by the time of his daughter's marriage. Ellen bore Edwin 3 children. When the family moved to the States in the mid-1880s, Ellen didn't come. "Family legend" says that she emigrated to Australia. Edwin had a total of 3 wives and 21 children. I have the other branches worked out except my own. Any and all info appreciated.
